The Terminal Operations Manager is responsible for the overall performance, compliance, and day to-day execution of a small-scale freight forwarding terminal operation. This role is primarily operations-focused (approximately 85%), with a secondary responsibility (approximately 15%) supporting sales and business development activities. The individual will oversee a lean team of drivers, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant operations while supporting customer interactions and coordinating with internal Sales teams. This position requires a hands-on leader who can manage terminal operations, maintain regulatory compliance, and contribute to business growth in a support capacity. Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership
- Oversee daily terminal operations, including receiving, loading/unloading, staging, dispatch, and service execution
- Supervise a team of approximately 5 drivers responsible for transportation and freight handling
- Manage scheduling, timekeeping, and workforce coordination
- Ensure operational efficiency, service quality, and productivity
- Monitor operational KPIs and implement improvements
- Maintain standard operating procedures and identify opportunities for process improvement
- Partner with HR, Safety, Finance, Customer Service, Sales, and other internal teams
- Take a hands-on approach to daily terminal operations and problem-solving
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, and applicable company policies
- Monitor driver compliance, including hours of service, qualifications, and inspections
- Oversee equipment safety and maintenance practices
- Conduct safety audits and promote safe working conditions
- Support incident reporting, investigations, and corrective actions
- Promote and maintain a strong safety-first culture
Sales Support & Business Development
- Support business growth through customer interactions and follow-ups
- Coordinate with Sales teams regarding leads and business opportunities
- Participate in customer meetings as needed
- Provide operational insight to support pricing and service decisions
- Contribute to overall business performance and operational profitability
- No direct sales quota; success is measured through overall business performance and alignment with company goals
