About the Role
We are looking for a Junior Panamax Broker to join our Dry Cargo team in Singapore.
This is an opportunity for an ambitious individual at the early stages of their shipping career to develop within an established Panamax broking desk and gain direct exposure to the global dry bulk market.
Working alongside experienced brokers, you will be involved in the day-to-day commercial activity of the desk, developing your understanding of vessels, cargoes, freight markets, trade flows and chartering while progressively building relationships with clients and counterparties.
The role combines hands-on broking experience with structured development and mentorship. From the outset, you will be expected to contribute to the desk while developing the commercial judgement, market knowledge and relationships required to build a successful long-term career in shipbroking.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Junior Panamax Broker, you will:
- Support the Panamax desk across live chartering and broking activity
- Monitor vessel positions, cargo requirements, freight rates and market developments
- Develop an understanding of key Panamax trade routes, commodities and market dynamics
- Assist with matching cargo opportunities with suitable vessels
- Communicate with owners, charterers, operators and other market participants
- Support negotiations and the progression of business from enquiry through to fixture
- Use market platforms, data and analytical tools to identify opportunities and provide relevant market intelligence
- Work closely with colleagues across IG’s international office and broking network
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients
- Build the commercial judgement and negotiation skills required to take increasing responsibility for business and clients

Experience
Ideally, you will have:
- A degree or relevant qualification in shipping, maritime studies, logistics, business, economics, finance, international trade or a related discipline; and/or
- Approximately 12–24 months of professional experience within shipping, shipbroking, chartering, commodities, logistics, energy, trading or another relevant commercial environment.
Previous direct broking experience is advantageous but not essential. We are equally interested in candidates who can demonstrate strong commercial potential, an understanding of the shipping industry and a clear ambition to develop a career in shipbroking.
