Purchasing Manager – Industrial Parts & Maintenance
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Purchasing Manager to handle the purchasing of maintenance parts, repair components, supplies, and other operating materials for our lumber manufacturing operation.
This is a hands-on purchasing role that works directly with maintenance personnel, department managers, vendors, and company leadership. The right candidate must be comfortable researching parts, making phone calls, negotiating with vendors, comparing quotes, following up on orders, and making sure the correct parts are available when needed.
The ideal candidate will have a basic understanding of industrial equipment and parts, be computer literate, and be willing to learn and work within our CMMS system.
Responsibilities
- Handle purchasing of maintenance, repair, and operating parts and supplies.
- Work directly with maintenance personnel and managers to identify needed parts.
- Research and source mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, conveyor, rolling stock, and other industrial components.
- Contact current vendors and make cold calls to locate new suppliers and alternative sources.
- Obtain and compare quotes based on price, availability, lead time, freight, tariffs and quality.
- Negotiate pricing, discounts, freight, and purchasing terms.
- Verify part numbers, model numbers, specifications, quantities, and pricing before placing orders.
- Locate hard-to-find, obsolete, emergency, and specialty parts.
- Track open orders, backorders, shipping status, and expected delivery dates.
- Follow up with vendors to ensure orders are delivered on time.
- Communicate order status and potential delays to maintenance and management.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records, quotes, order confirmations, and vendor information within the CMMS system.
- Assist with developing preferred vendors and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
- Help maintain appropriate stock levels of critical spare parts.
- Assist with organizing and improving maintenance parts inventory.
- Enter and maintain purchasing and parts information within the CMMS system.
- Work with management to improve purchasing procedures and controls.
- Support emergency purchasing needs when equipment breakdowns occur.
Qualifications

- Comfortable speaking with vendors, maintenance employees, supervisors, and managers.

- Ability to manage multiple purchasing requests and priorities at one time.
- Computer literate with experience using Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Ability and willingness to learn and manage the onsite CMMS system.
- Basic understanding of equipment and parts commonly used in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Ability to research unfamiliar parts using model numbers, manufacturer information, photographs, measurements, manuals, and online resources.
- Dependable, organized, and able to work independently.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to make decisions.
- Ability to work with a sense of urgency when equipment downtime is involved.
Preferred Experience
Previous experience in any of the following is preferred:
- Industrial purchasing or procurement
- Manufacturing
- Lumber or sawmill operations
- Industrial maintenance
- Maintenance parts purchasing
- Industrial parts or supply sales
- Bearings and power transmission
- Motors and gearboxes
- Hydraulics and pneumatics
- Electrical components
- Conveyors and material handling equipment
- Heavy equipment or rolling stock parts
- CMMS or maintenance management software
Prior LIMBLE CMMS experience is helpful but not required.

Get the correct part, from the right supplier, at the best practical price, when it is needed.
The Purchasing Manager will play an important role in reducing equipment downtime, controlling maintenance costs, improving inventory management, and strengthening the overall maintenance program.
