Role Description The Operations Manager role is a full-time, on-site position based in Altona, VIC. This role oversees day-to-day freight forwarding and warehousing operations, ensuring efficient scheduling, allocation of resources, and on-time delivery across general and express freight services. The Operations Manager will monitor compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements, coordinate with drivers, warehouse teams, and customer service staff, and resolve operational issues promptly. Responsibilities include optimizing workflows, managing performance metrics, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and maintaining accurate operational documentation and reporting. The role also collaborates closely with senior leadership and key customers to uphold service excellence and strengthen long-term business partnerships.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in operations management within freight forwarding, logistics, or 3PL warehousing.
- Strong skills in planning, scheduling, and resource allocation to support daily transport and warehouse activities.
- Proven ability to manage safety, compliance, and regulatory requirements, including dangerous and hazardous goods handling.
- Competence in using logistics, transport management, and warehouse management systems, with solid data and reporting skills.
- Effective leadership capabilities, including team supervision, coaching, performance management, and conflict resolution.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build and maintain customer and supplier relationships.
- Problem-solving and decision-making skills, with a focus on process improvement, efficiency, and service quality.
- Understanding of the Australian road freight industry and national distribution networks; experience in retail, food, or manufacturing sectors is an advantage.
- Relevant qualification in logistics, supply chain management, business, or a related field (or equivalent industry experience).
- Ability to work on-site in Altona, VIC, with flexibility to respond to operational demands as required.
