Altius Talent on behalf of an international freight forwarder is seeking an Export Specialist to join its Charlotte operations team. The company provides end-to-end logistics solutions across air, ocean, and ground transportation, including customs clearance, warehousing, and distribution. The Role
A hands-on operational role responsible for managing international export shipments across air and ocean from booking through to final departure. This position sits within a collaborative operations team and carries direct accountability for ensuring shipments are executed efficiently, compliantly, and in line with customer expectations.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day operations for international export shipments across air and ocean.
- Coordinate bookings, routing, and shipment execution from pickup through final departure.
- Prepare and process export documentation including MAWB, HAWB, Bills of Lading, commercial invoices, and packing lists.
- Ensure compliance with U.S. export regulations, including AES filings and customer-specific requirements.
- Coordinate with carriers, co-loaders, trucking providers, and warehouses.
- Act as the primary point of contact for customers, providing proactive updates and resolving issues.
- Monitor shipment timelines and manage delays, rollovers, and carrier exceptions.
- Troubleshoot operational challenges and implement corrective actions quickly.
- Collaborate with internal teams including warehouse, dispatch, compliance, and billing.
- Maintain accurate shipment data and records within CargoWise.
- Support process improvements and help standardize operational workflows.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, carriers, and internal stakeholders.
Requirements
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in freight forwarding operations.
- Strong operational experience in U.S. exports (air and/or ocean required).
- Import experience is advantageous.
- Hands-on experience with CargoWise (required).
- Strong understanding of export documentation, AES filings, and regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge of Incoterms, IATA regulations, and ocean carrier processes.
- Ability to manage multiple shipments and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication skills with both customers and internal teams.
- High level of ownership and accountability.
