About the Opportunity
We’re partnering with a growing international logistics company that is hiring an Ocean Import Specialist in Schaumburg, IL.
This is a great fit for someone with import logistics, freight forwarding, drayage, transportation, or carrier coordination experience who is detail-oriented, organized, and good at keeping shipments moving.
In this role, you’ll help manage daily import traffic by sending delivery orders, dispatching shipments to carriers, tracking container status, following up on pickups and deliveries, and updating shipment information in the system.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Send delivery orders to truckers/carriers for final delivery.
- Dispatch shipments and follow up to confirm pickup and delivery.
- Verify bill of lading numbers, piece counts, container numbers, and arrival notices.
- Confirm cargo is released and available for pickup from the port, terminal, pier, or railyard.
- Track inland cargo and update ETAs in the system.
- Obtain pickup numbers and confirm carrier acknowledgment.
- Monitor shipments to avoid delays, storage charges, and issues before the last free day.
- Obtain and enter Proof of Delivery when required.
- Monitor daily reports, including Delivery Order Not Sent and Missing Delivery reports.
- Help coordinate customs exams and communicate delivery delays to Customer Service.
What They’re Looking For
- 2+ years of logistics, import, freight forwarding, traffic, drayage, or transportation coordination experience.
- Experience with delivery orders, containers, carriers, ports, terminals, railyards, or import shipments.
- Strong communication, organization, and follow-up skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced logistics environment.
- Strong attention to detail with shipment documents and system updates.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access.
- Team-oriented, dependable, and able to manage multiple shipments at once.
