Purchasing Executive — Defence & Strategic Chemicals

Istanbul, Türkiye · On-site · Full-time

About MRX Defence Chemicals

MRX Defence Chemicals is an Istanbul-headquartered supplier of strategic chemicals and advanced materials to critical defence industry facilities worldwide. From our position between Europe and Asia, we source, qualify and deliver the materials behind propulsion, energetics, pyrotechnics and platform protection programmes — supporting prime contractors and state facilities across NATO and allied nations, alongside a growing portfolio in nuclear and energy sector chemicals.

Our product lines span nitrocellulose-based and composite propellants, rocket propellants, high explosives and core energetic materials, pyrotechnic compositions, specialty defence materials and marking dyes. In this business, a single out-of-spec lot or a missed export licence is not a commercial inconvenience — it is a programme delay. That is the standard we work to.

The Role

We are looking for a Purchasing Executive to own the sourcing and procurement cycle end-to-end. This is not an order-processing seat: you will be the commercial and technical interface between our supplier base in Asia and Europe and the defence customers who depend on those materials arriving on spec, on time and fully documented.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, evaluate and qualify new suppliers across Asia and Europe for energetic precursors, pyrotechnic chemicals, propellant additives and dual-use industrial chemicals
  • Run RFQ processes, negotiate pricing, payment and Incoterms, and convert them into purchase orders and framework agreements
  • Manage the full order lifecycle: production follow-up, pre-shipment inspection, documentation, freight coordination and customs clearance
  • Review and reconcile technical documentation — TDS, MSDS/SDS, CoA — against customer specifications and military standards (MIL-DTL, MIL-Z, ASTM and equivalents)
  • Handle quality claims and non-conformities with suppliers through to resolution
  • Monitor export control, dual-use and hazardous goods requirements across multiple jurisdictions and ensure every transaction is compliant and traceable
  • Maintain purchasing records, supplier scorecards and cost analyses that feed pricing and sourcing decisions

What We’re Looking For

  • Two foreign languages at professional working level — English is essential; a second language (German, Russian, Chinese, French, Spanish, Arabic) is a genuine differentiator, as our supplier and customer base is international
  • Prior experience in defence or an adjacent technical sector — defence and aerospace, mining, chemicals, energy or industrial raw materials trading. You should already be comfortable reading a technical spec sheet
  • 3+ years in procurement, supply chain or foreign trade, with hands-on international sourcing experience
  • Working knowledge of Incoterms, letters of credit, customs procedures and dangerous goods (ADR/IMDG) handling
  • Strong analytical ability — supplier comparison, landed cost modelling, negotiation grounded in data rather than instinct
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Industrial Engineering, International Trade, Supply Chain Management or a related field
  • Comfortable operating with autonomy in a lean, fast-moving team where you own your files end-to-end
  • Discretion and integrity — you will handle sensitive commercial and programme information

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with energetic materials, pyrotechnics or specialty chemicals
  • Exposure to export control regimes (Wassenaar, EU dual-use, ITAR/EAR awareness)
  • ERP and procurement software experience
  • Existing supplier network in China, India or the EU chemical industry

What We Offer

  • Direct ownership of strategic sourcing decisions from day one — no layers between you and the outcome
  • Exposure to the full commercial and technical cycle, not a narrow procurement silo
  • International travel to supplier facilities and industry exhibitions
  • Competitive compensation aligned with experience
  • A team where technical depth is expected and rewarded
