Job Description / Responsibility

We are seeking an accomplished and commercially driven General Manager – Freight Forwarding & Logistics to lead our freight forwarding business and drive the next phase of growth. This role requires a strategic leader with strong operational expertise, commercial acumen, and extensive industry networks within Bangladesh’s logistics ecosystem.
This is an overseas career opportunity with David Pieris Logistics (Pvt) Ltd. for its operations in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute business strategies to achieve sustainable growth, profitability, and market leadership.
- Identify new business opportunities, emerging market trends, and strategic partnerships.
- Drive organizational transformation, innovation, and service excellence initiatives.
Business Development & Commercial Growth
- Lead sales and business development efforts across Air Freight, Sea Freight, Project Logistics, Customs Brokerage, and Integrated Logistics Solutions.
- Expand market share by developing relationships with key corporate customers, multinational organizations, and industry stakeholders.
- Negotiate strategic contracts, pricing agreements, and service partnerships.
- Develop and implement effective customer acquisition and retention strategies
Operations Management
- Oversee end-to-end freight forwarding operations, ensuring operational efficiency, compliance, and service quality.
- Monitor and optimize productivity, cost management, and customer service performance.
- Ensure compliance with local and international trade regulations, customs requirements, and industry standards.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and operational best practices.
Financial Management
- Manage departmental budgets, profitability, and financial performance.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Ensure achievement of revenue, gross profit, and operational targets.
- Identify opportunities for cost optimization and business expansion.
Leadership & Talent Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop high-performing commercial and operational teams.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, customer focus, and continuous improvement.
- Build leadership capabilities and succession pipelines within the organization
Stakeholder Engagement
- Represent the company with customers, government authorities, industry bodies, shipping lines, airlines, overseas agents, and strategic partners.
- Strengthen relationships across the local and international logistics network.
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Supply Chain Management
- Bachelor`s Degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Maritime Studies, International Business, or a related field.
- MBA or relevant postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage.
Experience Requirements
- 12 to 15 year(s)
- The applicants should have experience in the following business area(s): Logistic/Courier/Air Express Companies
Additional Requirements
- Minimum 12-15 years of progressive experience in Freight Forwarding, Logistics, Shipping, Supply Chain, or related industries.
- Minimum 5 years of senior management experience with responsibility for business performance and team leadership.
- Proven expertise in Air Freight, Sea Freight, NVOCC, Customs Brokerage, and Integrated Logistics Solutions.
- Demonstrated success in driving business growth, profitability, and operational excellence.
- Strong experience within the Bangladesh freight forwarding and logistics industry is highly preferred.
- Well-established professional network with airlines, shipping lines, overseas agents, customs authorities, port operators, C&F agents, and key corporate customers in Bangladesh will be a distinct advantage.
- In-depth understanding of Bangladesh`s freight forwarding, customs, transportation, and logistics landscape.
- Strong knowledge of international trade, shipping, freight forwarding regulations, and supply chain management.
- Excellent leadership, negotiation, stakeholder management, and relationship-building skills
- Strong commercial and financial acumen with proven P&L, management experience.
- Strategic thinker with strong analytical and decision-making capabilities.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills in English.
