Responsibilities:
Operate yard trucks or terminal tractors to move trailers or containers to designated locations within the yard or dock area.
Perform safety checks on vehicles before operation and report any maintenance issues or safety hazards to supervisors.
Follow established procedures for coupling and uncoupling trailers or containers safely and efficiently.
Communicate effectively with warehouse personnel, truck drivers, and supervisors to coordinate the movement of cargo and ensure timely delivery schedules.
Adhere to company policies and procedures regarding safety, security, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Maintain accurate records of trailer or container movements, including trailer numbers, locations, and arrival/departure times.
Assist with other tasks in the yard or warehouse as needed, such as loading/unloading freight or organizing storage areas.
Qualification Skills:
Additional certifications or training in commercial driving, logistics, or related fields.
Experience operating specialized equipment such as forklifts or pallet jacks.
Knowledge of electronic logging devices (ELDs) and transportation management systems (TMS).
Familiarity with OSHA regulations and other safety standards applicable to warehouse and transportation operations.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for operating yard trucks or terminal tractors.
Proven experience as a yard jockey or similar role in logistics or transportation environment.
Strong understanding of safe driving practices and ability to maneuver vehicles in tight spaces.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Ability to follow instructions and adhere to established procedures and safety guidelines.
Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
Physical stamina and strength to perform repetitive tasks and lift/move heavy objects as required.
