Warehouse Supervisor/Safety Program Lead Jobs in Houston, TX at World Resources

The Warehouse Supervisor — Houston is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the World Resources Houston distribution facility. This is a hands-on role. At launch the position performs all material handling, receiving, put-away, picking, packing, shipping, and will-call duties personally, and owns the accuracy, safety, cleanliness, and security of the site.

This position differs from the equivalent role in Dallas-Fort Worth in one material respect: there is no General Manager and no warehouse team on site. For approximately the first sixty days, this position may be the only full-time World Resources employee in Houston. The Warehouse Supervisor is the senior World Resources presence at the location and is expected to exercise independent judgment, work without daily on-site supervision, communicate proactively with Dallas-Fort Worth leadership, and represent World Resources directly to customers, carriers, and vendors.

The position also serves as the designated site Safety Program Lead, responsible for OSHA compliance, safety program implementation, incident investigation, training coordination, and safety recordkeeping.

Scope of the Role

  • For approximately the first sixty days, this position may be the only full-time World Resources employee at the Houston location.
  • Reports to Dallas-Fort Worth leadership. No on-site supervisor and no General Manager at the site.
  • Accountable for the physical operation of the site: inbound freight, inventory accuracy, outbound orders, will-call, facility condition, and safety.
  • Serves as the on-site representative of World Resources to customers, carriers, vendors, and the landlord.
  • Expected to build and lead a Houston warehouse team, and to work alongside Houston sales staff, as the location grows.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

May include any or all of the following.

Warehouse Operations

  • Perform hands-on material handling duties, including operating forklifts and moving materials.
  • Own the inbound receiving workflow, including freight scheduling, unloading, verification against purchase orders, and put-away.
  • Own outbound shipping and order fulfillment for both parcel and LTL freight, including pick, pack, documentation, and carrier handoff.
  • Process returns intake and document discrepancies.
  • Set the daily work sequence for receiving, picking, shipping, and will-call to meet customer commitments and shipping cutoffs.
  • Support Inventory Control in inventory accuracy, cycle counts, and audits.
  • Address and report equipment issues and inventory discrepancies same day.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe warehouse work areas.
  • Perform other warehouse duties as required.

Site Ownership and Customer Experience

  • Open, close, and secure the facility daily.
  • Serve as the on-site point of contact for customers at will-call, delivering a professional and accurate customer experience.
  • Coordinate directly with carriers, freight lines, and service vendors serving the location.
  • Communicate proactively and daily with Dallas-Fort Worth leadership regarding workload, exceptions, freight issues, and inventory position.
  • Escalate issues early rather than absorbing them. Provide an interim answer when a final answer is not yet available.
  • Represent World Resources professionally to customers, carriers, vendors, and the landlord.
  • Maintain the appearance and condition of the facility, including the customer-facing areas.
  • Complete a scheduled start-of-day and end-of-day check-in with Dallas-Fort Worth leadership.
  • Provide advance notice of planned absences so site coverage can be arranged, and follow the established protocol for unplanned absences.

Safety Program Responsibilities

  • Serve as site Safety Lead and champion for all safety initiatives at the Houston location.
  • Administer and oversee the powered industrial truck training and certification program, including:
  • Conducting or coordinating initial certification for new operators
  • Performing required three-year recertifications and periodic evaluations
  • Observing and documenting operator competency and safe operation
  • Maintaining certification records and training documentation
  • Removing and retraining operators demonstrating unsafe behavior or after incidents
  • Conduct daily safety checks, equipment inspections, and toolbox talks as needed.
  • Own OSHA safety programs at the site, including LOTO, PPE, and forklift safety.
  • Maintain OSHA 300, 300A, and 301 logs and reporting compliance.
  • Conduct incident and near-miss investigations with root cause analysis.
  • Lead safety audits, inspections, and behavioral safety observations.
  • Coordinate emergency drills and response activities.
  • Follow the site working-alone protocol, including scheduled check-ins, an accessible means of communication at all times, and the emergency contact procedure.
  • Identify tasks that should not be performed alone and schedule them for periods when additional personnel are on site.
  • Serve as the site point of contact during OSHA inspections.
  • Track and report safety KPIs and support the workers compensation process.

Make recommendations to Executive Leadership for ongoing compliance with OSHA 29 CFR § 1910.178 and 29 U.S.C. § 654(a)(1).

Education and Experience

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five years of warehouse or distribution experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to run a shift, a department, or a site with limited direct supervision.
  • Proficient forklift operation.
  • Familiarity with barcode scanning, inventory systems, or a warehouse management system.

Preferred

  • One to three years of prior lead, supervisor, or working supervisor experience.
  • Bilingual, English and Spanish.
  • Hardware, door, or window industry experience.
  • Experience opening or standing up a new facility.

  • Knowledge of warehouse and distribution operations, including shipping, receiving, and inventory control, and of shipping documents, pick tickets, packing slips, and bills of lading.
  • Knowledge of safe forklift operation and material handling practices.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety requirements.
  • Clear written and verbal communication. Communicates early, directly, and to the right person.
  • Attention to detail to ensure accurate order fulfillment and inventory handling.
  • Effective time management and workload prioritization against shipping deadlines.
  • Ability to adapt to changing workloads, schedules, staffing needs, and priorities.
  • Hands-on leadership and coaching ability as the site grows.
  • Ability to document performance and disciplinary actions accurately.

  • Operate forklifts and warehouse equipment requiring good hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to sit, twist, and turn while operating equipment for extended periods.

  • Ability to work in a warehouse environment with exposure to varying temperatures, noise, and dust.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.

Pay: $25.00 – $28.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 – 45.0 per week
