Position Overview

The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily transportation operations, including route planning, driver scheduling, and on-the-road coordination. This role ensures the timely and safe delivery of goods and maintains smooth communication between drivers, customers, and internal departments. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in dispatch, logistics, and team leadership—especially within a union environment—and be committed to delivering excellent service.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Supervision

Provide daily supervision and guidance to drivers, ensuring alignment with department goals and union agreements

Assign and monitor work to maximize efficiency and minimize delays in service

Train, coach, and mentor drivers on systems, procedures, and safety regulations

Administer performance feedback, corrective action, and progressive discipline when needed

Foster a positive and compliant work environment aligned with transportation safety standards

Operational Oversight

Coordinate and optimize delivery schedules, utilizing GPS and dispatch software

Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, and other regulatory bodies

Stay current on all transportation laws, union agreements, and internal policies

Serve as the liaison between drivers, internal stakeholders, and external partners to resolve issues quickly and effectively

Uphold food safety and logistics standards throughout operations

Qualifications

Experience leading transportation or logistics teams, preferably in a unionized setting

Knowledge of transportation safety, compliance, and food handling regulations

Strong multitasking and problem-solving abilities

Proficient in dispatch and GPS routing software

Clear and effective communicator with excellent organizational skills

Passionate about community impact and mission-driven work
