About the Opportunity

Atlantic Overseas Express is seeking a highly organized and service-focused International Freight Traffic Coordinator to join our growing North Andover office.

In this role, you will coordinate and monitor shipments from document receipt through dispatch, delivery, and final file closure. You will communicate with clients, carriers, trucking companies, terminals, warehouses, customs representatives, service providers, and AOE team members to keep cargo moving accurately and efficiently.

This is a hands-on operational position for someone who takes ownership of shipment activity, communicates proactively, and enjoys solving logistics challenges before they become client problems.

What You’ll Do

  • Monitor shipments from document receipt through final delivery and file closure.
  • Confirm that required documentation, cargo releases, and internal approvals are in place before dispatch.
  • Coordinate dispatching and deliveries, including:
  • confirming cargo availability;
  • preparing delivery orders;
  • scheduling transportation with trucking companies;
  • monitoring pickups and deliveries;
  • obtaining proof of delivery; and
  • ensuring empty containers are returned within required timeframes.
  • Maintain timely and accurate shipment milestones, tracking events, notes, and documentation in AOE’s operating system.
  • Communicate release, availability, pickup, delivery, and exception information promptly to clients and internal team members.
  • Liaise with carriers, terminals, trucking companies, warehouses, customs representatives, and other service providers.
  • Troubleshoot documentation issues, shipment discrepancies, delivery exceptions, and service interruptions.
  • Proactively identify potential delays, added costs, or operational risks and escalate them before they affect the client.
  • Coordinate approved shipment-related payments, including terminal, examination, freight, storage, and other operational charges.
  • Identify billable services related to deliveries, examinations, storage, detention, demurrage, waiting time, and other shipment activity.
  • Maintain accurate supporting documentation for operational expenses and client billing.
  • Serve as an operational point of contact for clients by providing shipment updates, answering questions, and following up on service issues.
  • Respond professionally and promptly to a high volume of emails, telephone calls, and operational requests.
  • Build strong working relationships with clients, vendors, partners, and internal team members.
  • Assist colleagues as needed to maintain workload coverage and consistent service.
  • Recommend practical and creative solutions to operational challenges.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to documentation accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple active shipments, deadlines, calls, emails, and follow-up items simultaneously.
  • Ability to remain composed and effective in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong customer-service skills and a professional communication style.
  • Effective critical-thinking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong computer skills and the ability to learn logistics and freight-forwarding systems.
  • A proactive, dependable, positive, and self-motivated approach.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team.
  • Ability to work on-site at AOE’s North Andover office Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One to three years of experience in international freight forwarding, transportation, import/export operations, or a related logistics environment.
  • Experience coordinating air, ocean, ground, or multimodal shipments.
  • Familiarity with delivery orders, cargo releases, terminal procedures, trucking coordination, shipment documentation, and milestone tracking.
  • Experience using Magaya Supply Chain or another freight-forwarding or transportation-management system.
  • Professional fluency in English and Spanish.
  • Experience supporting Latin American or Caribbean trade lanes.
  • Experience with project cargo, industrial freight, or time-sensitive shipments.

  • Base salary of $58,000–$68,000 annually, depending on relevant experience, qualifications, and demonstrated capabilities.
