Duties
- Safely operate tractor-trailers and specialized vehicles such as refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, or tankers in accordance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
- Navigate routes using GPS navigation systems to ensure timely deliveries across OTR routes.
- Load and unload freight manually or with equipment, ensuring proper handling of logistics cargo including hazardous materials and dangerous goods.
- Transport automobiles or other specialty cargo securely using appropriate trailer types.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to verify vehicle safety, including checking for hazardous materials compliance if applicable.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, delivery records, and inspection reports following FMCSA regulations.
- Collaborate with team members to coordinate deliveries, optimize routes, and ensure efficient freight handling while adhering to safety standards.
Experience
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving with a focus on route driving and delivery driving.
- Familiarity with operating refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, or tractor-trailers with manual transmissions.
- Knowledge of hazardous materials regulations (Hazmat) and proper manual handling techniques for freight loading/unloading.
- Experience in logistics cargo handling and truck loading/unloading procedures.
- Strong understanding of FMCSA and DOT regulations governing commercial trucking operations.
- Ability to operate GPS navigation systems confidently for route planning across diverse OTR routes.
- Prior experience working with dangerous goods or hazardous materials is a plus but not mandatory; training provided if needed.
