Director of Supply Chain

Position Summary

The Director of Supply Chain is responsible for the strategic leadership, planning, development, and execution of all supply chain activities supporting a Confidential Company's FAA Part 145 Repair Station operations. This role oversees procurement, inventory management, warehouse operations, shipping and receiving, supplier development, demand planning, forecasting, transportation, logistics, and material management functions.

The Director of Supply Chain ensures that materials, services, and resources are available to support production schedules while optimizing inventory investment, reducing lead times, controlling costs, and improving operational efficiency. This position partners closely with Operations, Production Control, Engineering, Quality, Finance, and Executive Leadership to align supply chain strategies with organizational objectives and customer commitments.

The primary objective of this role is to build and maintain a world-class supply chain organization capable of supporting growth, improving turnaround times, reducing material shortages, optimizing logistics and transportation costs, and maximizing profitability.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute the organization's overall supply chain strategy in alignment with operational and financial objectives.
  • Lead all supply chain functions, including Purchasing, Inventory Control, Warehouse Operations, Shipping & Receiving, and Logistics.
  • Establish long-term plans to support business growth, increased production capacity, new service capabilities, and strategic initiatives.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to develop annual operating plans and capital investment strategies.
  • Identify supply chain risks and implement mitigation plans to ensure business continuity.

Procurement, Supplier, and Logistics Management

  • Develop and implement strategic sourcing initiatives to reduce costs, improve supplier performance, and strengthen supply chain reliability.
  • Negotiate supplier agreements, long-term contracts, pricing structures, and service-level agreements.
  • Execute sourcing, procurement, logistics, and supplier management strategies that optimize total supply chain costs, including material acquisition, transportation, freight, and outsourced repair services.
  • Manage carrier, freight, and logistics provider relationships to ensure cost-effective transportation solutions while meeting customer delivery commitments.
  • Drive initiatives to reduce freight, transportation, and expedited shipping expenses through enhanced planning and supplier performance management.

Supplier Performance Management

Establish and monitor supplier performance metrics, including:

  • On-Time Delivery

  • Cost Competitiveness
  • Responsiveness

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Developing and maintaining preferred supplier programs.
  • Leading supplier audits and business reviews in partnership with Quality and Engineering teams.
  • Implementing alternate sourcing strategies to minimize dependence on single-source suppliers.

Inventory and Material Planning

  • Direct inventory planning activities to ensure material availability while minimizing excess inventory.
  • Develop forecasting models utilizing customer demand, historical consumption, production schedules, and business projections.
  • Establish and maintain inventory management policies, including:
  • Safety Stock Levels
  • Min/Max Levels
  • Reorder Points
  • Obsolescence Management
  • Lead initiatives to improve inventory accuracy and inventory turnover.
  • Oversee cycle count programs and inventory reconciliation activities.
  • Develop strategies for managing slow-moving, excess, and obsolete inventory.

Production Support

  • Partner with Production Control and Operations leadership to ensure material availability aligns with production schedules.
  • Implement systems to proactively identify and escalate material shortages before they impact customer commitments.
  • Monitor critical work orders and high-priority customer programs.
  • Improve material flow and operational efficiency throughout the organization.
  • Support capacity planning and long-term production forecasting initiatives.

Supply Chain Analytics and Continuous Improvement

  • Develop and maintain executive-level dashboards and KPI reporting.
  • Utilize data analytics to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives across supply chain operations.
  • Drive automation and digital transformation efforts leveraging ERP systems, reporting tools, and advanced analytics.
  • Establish measurable performance metrics and communicate results regularly to executive leadership.

Financial Management

  • Develop and manage departmental operating and capital budgets.
  • Identify and execute cost-reduction initiatives without compromising quality, compliance, or customer service.
  • Monitor inventory investment and working capital performance.
  • Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Analyze the financial impact of inventory decisions, supplier agreements, sourcing strategies, and transportation expenditures.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with FAA Part 145 requirements related to material control, traceability, and documentation.
  • Maintain compliance with company quality procedures and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to FAA, DOT, OSHA, and hazardous materials regulations.
  • Support customer, FAA, EASA, and third-party audits as required.

Leadership and Talent Development

  • Provide leadership, direction, and oversight for all supply chain personnel.
  • Develop succession plans and organizational growth strategies.
  • Establish departmental goals, objectives, and performance metrics.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop management and staff.
  • Lead hiring, performance management, training, and employee development initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, customer focus, and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and commitment to organizational values.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, Engineering, or a related field required.
  • MBA or other advanced degree preferred.
  • APICS/ASCM certifications such as CPIM or CSCP preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in supply chain management, procurement, inventory management, logistics, or operations.
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience overseeing multiple supply chain functions.
  • Experience within aviation, aerospace, manufacturing, or MRO environments required.
  • Proven experience managing purchasing, warehouse operations, inventory control, shipping, receiving, and logistics teams.
  • Experience utilizing ERP systems, forecasting tools, and supply chain analytics platforms.
