Role Description:
The Senior Vice President – Business Development will be responsible for business development activity to attract new profitable customer relationships, as well as expanding and maintaining business with existing customers. Responsible for selling the entire client’s portfolio inclusive of terminals, short lines, switching, mechanical services, and supply chain services. This position plays a critical role in development of services that produce results and garner customers' trust. This position has varying responsibilities including taking ownership of current and prospective customers and partnering with the Sales and Account Managers to develop and sell effective solutions for customers.
Minimum Requirements:
– Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
– Use basic computer skills – Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, 10 Key, and Data Entry
– Transportation Management System (TMS) skills recommended
– Effective customer service skills and the ability to service both internal and external customers
– Ability to provide oral and written reports, business correspondence, and effective presentation of information to customers, team members, and managers
– Knowledgeable in standard industry practices, trends, and operational requirements
– Experience with data mining, quantitative analysis, descriptive and inferential/predictive analysis, and forecasting
– Experience with project management with fiscal accountability
Responsibilities:
– Perform site visits and onboard new customers
– Work independently and collaborate with other Watco operating units continuously
– Perform in compliance with established policies and objectives of the organization
– Meet customer needs and expectations by delivering solutions in a safe, timely, and profitable way
– Engage and build sustainable relationships with existing customers to drive organic growth
– Identify and generate new sales opportunities through phone, internet, fieldwork, referrals, and industry networking
– Strategically develop and communicate a long-term vision to meet customer needs
– Account for rapidly changing market dynamics
– Review weekly and monthly sales activities and prospective customers with direct leadership channels
– Grow, develop, and review detailed financial plans, profit and loss income statement, and adherence to the EBITDA plan
– Negotiate terms on freight sales, customer spot pricing, and direct customers to the appropriate account managers and transportation coordinators
– Negotiate vendor pricing and help facilitate the business startup process to deliver consistent revenue growth
– Strive to spend a majority of the time in front of and engaging customers
Physical Requirements & Physical Demands:
– Sit, stand, walk, and reach with arms – Completion of paperwork, long consecutive hours of typing and using the computer
– Talk daily to customers, team members, vendors, etc.
– Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
– Ability to travel 25-50% of the time with flexibility
