JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Safety Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all safety and compliance functions across the entire enterprise umbrella. This pivotal leadership role is integral in fostering a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and managing risks to achieve the company’s financial objectives. The Director will lead a dedicated team and collaborate cross-functionally with departments to oversee risk analysis, claims management, safety programming, and DOT/FMCSA compliance
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Safety Culture Development
- Cultivate and maintain a strong safety culture throughout the organization, ensuring safety is integrated into every facet of company operations.
- Drive initiatives that align safety practices with organizational goals to support a proactive safety environment.
- Promote efforts to maintain a Satisfactory or Non-rated Safety Rating with the FMCSA.
2. Risk Management and Compliance
- Oversee risk analysis and ensure robust risk management processes across all departments.
- Ensure strict adherence to DOT/FMCSA regulations and other federal requirements across the organization.
- Supervise the management of auto liability claims, including investigations, reporting, physical damage claims, and internal tracking.
- Provide insights and review strategies in areas such as freight movement, brokerage, HR, and recruiting to identify and mitigate risk.
3. Insurance and Claims Management
- Oversee the claims management process, coordinating with insurance carriers, brokers, and claims adjusters, while supervising claims management personnel.
- Maintain insurance coverage, ensuring updated certificates of insurance and equipment lists.
- Leverage consulting opportunities to evaluate and enhance risk management strategies.
- Review and provide feedback on contract clauses to ensure proper risk management and insurance requirements for contractors, brokers, and partners.
4. Communication and Training
- Develop and implement communication strategies for drivers and department leads, ensuring safety updates and relevant information are communicated effectively.
- Create, implement, and oversee training programs for drivers and internal staff regarding safety-related systems, job functions, and compliance.
- Address unsafe driving behaviors and facility safety issues through remediation, training, and policy development.
5. Records & Process Management
- Ensure accurate retention of records for OSHA, DOT, and insurance requirements.
- Oversee the management of safety-related data in required systems for accidents, workers’ compensation, and other documentation.
- Ensure all compliance-related reporting is completed, and internal metrics are tracked and disseminated across the company.
- Oversee the implementation and compliance with Federal Drug and Alcohol regulations.
6. People Management
- Supervise and manage the Safety Department team, including accountability tracking, discipline, and project management.
- Handle sensitive and confidential information with the utmost integrity and professionalism.
7. Accident and Workers’ Compensation Management
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to manage truck repairs and post-accident drug and alcohol testing.
- Manage all aspects of accident handling, including obtaining driver statements, photos, police reports, and ensuring accurate claim management.
- Oversee workers’ compensation claims, including filing required quarterly and annual reports.
8. Vehicle Compliance
- Ensure vehicle compliance with all licensing and permitting regulations, both state and federal, such as UCR Registration, State Permits, Oversize Permits and Use Taxes.
- Supervise personnel responsible for tracking and maintaining all relevant vehicle compliance records.
Education & Experience
- Expertise in DOT/FMCSA compliance and safety regulations.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Ability to manage complex claims and insurance processes.
- Proficiency with safety and compliance software systems.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and training skills.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
Certifications (Preferred):
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent safety certifications.
- First Aid/CPR certified.
Work Environment
- This position requires occasional travel to company locations and facilities.
- Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities effectively and efficiently.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $65,000.00 – $80,000.00 per year
