Position

The Senior Cargo Operations Specialist supports the successful preparation and execution of cargo and port operations for heavy lift and project cargo activities by providing technical expertise, operational coordination, and continuous improvement across Cargo Superintendent (CSI) and marine operations activities. The role ensures safe, efficient, and standardized project delivery while supporting operational readiness, risk management, and knowledge development within the organization.

Your responsibilities an key result areas

  • Provide technical and operational expertise and guidance across Engineering, Commercial, Nautical Operations, Tender Management, and Project teams, including input for feasibility studies and tender preparations.
  • Monitor critical path activities, highlight risks, and recommend mitigation and recovery plans.
  • Drive continual improvement by identifying operational bottlenecks, proposing process enhancements, and ensuring procedures are documented and maintained.
  • Drive project lessons learned, incorporating feedback into procedures and standards and future project planning.
  • Lead and support operational alignment during project and client meetings to align on scope, methodologies and risks, interfaces and execution strategies.
  • Review, guide, and, when required, drive CSI activities during the project preparation phase, including cargo operations planning, coordination, and the review and issuance of cargo-related documentation and deliverables.
  • Train, mentor, and oversee the onboarding of newly hired CSIs, with a focus on project readiness and delivery standards, and develop training plans in coordination with the Learning & Development Manager.
  • Serve as operational back-up CSI during project execution when required.
  • Participate in project and client meetings to align scope, methodology and risks, interfaces and execution strategy.
  • Report in a timely manner on project port operations performance and critical issues to the manager of Cargo Operations, Marine.
  • Perform other related duties ad necessary or assigned by manager or supervisor.

Your qualifications

  • At least a Bachelor degree (Maritime, Shipping, or similar)
  • 10 years maritime experience in heavy lift / project cargo as (Port) Captain/Cargo Superintendent.
  • Proven track record in supervising cargo, sea fastening, and port operations on heavy-lift vessels, deck carriers, MPPs, and semi-submersible vessels.
  • Solid understanding of port operations, marine regulations, and safety standards (e.g., ISM, QHSSE requirements).
  • Proven experience in heavy lift operations, including Ro-Ro and Flo-Flo Operations, cargo planning, sea fastening, port operations, risk assessments, and project execution.
  • Strong planning, coordination, and project management capabilities.
  • Passion for continuous improvement, process optimization, and operational standardization.
  • High level of ownership, professionalism, integrity, and accountability.
  • Willingness to occasionally travel abroad.

Our selection process
