Main tasks/objectives:
To co-ordinate the team of volunteer drivers in the collection and safe transfer of items, including furniture between shops or locations as specified by the commercial management team, ensuring that Health and Safety guidelines are followed at all times.Â
To line manage the PAT tester & Volunteer Drivers. Taking responsibility for their effectiveness, welfare, training and development. Ensure volunteers undertake all driver training and manual handling courses and report and failures to the Commercial management team.
To manage relationships with external collectors i.e. Rag, metal and electrical items
Work with the Volunteer Services Co-ordinator to recruit, interview and select volunteer drivers, loaders and co-pilots in accordance with the policies.
To oversee the daily safety checks on the vans and perform basic maintenance as required. Report faults and damage as necessary and ensure the relevant procedures are adhered to. Book MOT’s, service and report accidents and incidents via the Datix system.
To carry out various administrative tasks such as giving out invoices, filling in forms and obtaining signatures from customers and promoting the opportunity for Gift Aid.
To ensure that manual handling procedures are adhered to in the moving and handling of stock.
To plan routes and assess parking restrictions, where appropriate. To ensure that the Hospice vehicle is correctly parked, loaded and charged.Â
To carry out risk assessments as required.
To work with commercial management team to ensure the most efficient use of time in terms of logistics of collections and deliveries.
To dispose of unwanted/unsuitable items as appropriate, manage the skip and transfer of rubbish as required.
Organising collections and delivery of furniture in conjunction with customers and the Donation Centre.
To ensure that all donors/customers are treated respectfully.
Maximise Gift Aid processing and ensure all volunteers are trained to ask all donors if they are able to Gift Aid their donation.Â
Person Specification
Full, clean UK driving licence.
A minimum of two years driving experience over the age of 25.
Must be physically able to carry out all aspects of manual handling.
Have the ability to motivate and engage a group of volunteers.
Approachable and inclusive manner.
Adaptable with an ability to creatively problem solve.
Proven ability to work on own initiative and as part of a wider team.
Good communications skills including face to face, written and phone manner.
To be able to work across teams within retail and fundraising.Â
Pay: circa £27,000 per annum
