Overview
Part-Time Inside Sales — Car Lifts & Garage Equipment Jobs in Denver, CO at Open Door Garage
Our customers aren’t casual Sunday shoppers who need to be sold. They’re homeowners and small shop owners who’ve been thinking about this project for a long time, are finally ready to invest, and need help getting it right.
WHO WE ARE
Open Door Garage helps customers get complex garage and shop projects right: car lifts, storage lifts, flooring, cabinets, overhead storage, and more.
We’re an authorized dealer for brands like Challenger, Rotary, AMGO, Forward, Auxx Lift, RaceDeck and Versa Lift, among others. Real equipment, real money — most sales run $3,000 to $20,000.
Our customers want to talk to someone who knows if a car lift will fit in their bay, whether their slab will take it, and what actually happens when the freight truck shows up.
We’re small — two of us, plus you. No layers, no CSI scores, no district manager. You’d work directly with me, the owner.
Right now I’m the one taking every sales call, while also running everything else. Good customers wait days for a callback. Some stop waiting. That’s the job I’m hiring for.
WHO I’M LOOKING FOR
You’ve probably already spent years doing a version of this:
- Service advisor or service writer — dealership or independent
- Shop tech or mechanic ready to move into a customer-facing role
- Lift installer who knows what goes wrong on install day
- Equipment, tool, or parts sales — lift distributor, tool truck, heavy equipment, parts counter
- Anyone who has sold real equipment to real people and can talk to a guy about his garage without sounding like a salesman
If you’ve spent time helping someone understand why the $8,000 option actually fits what they’re trying to do — or telling them honestly when the $5,000 one is all they need — you’ll probably do well here.
This could be a great fit if you know this world but don’t want another 50-hour week at a dealership, shop, or equipment company. I need the experience you’ve built — I don’t need your entire week.
You don’t need to know our catalog. I’ll teach you the products, suppliers, and pricing. What I can’t teach is knowing how these customers think.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
You’ll own inbound sales opportunities from the first conversation through the buying decision.
- Talk to customers who come to us by phone and website chat and figure out what they’re actually trying to accomplish.
- Ask the right questions. What vehicles? Ceiling height? Garage dimensions? Concrete slab? Home garage or working shop? Installation plans?
- Help them choose the right solution. Sometimes that’s the more expensive lift. Sometimes it’s telling them they don’t need it. Sometimes it’s telling them what they want simply won’t work.
- Build and send quotes and help customers understand the equipment, accessories, freight, installation, and what happens next.
- Work with installers to get pricing, confirm fitment or site details, and solve questions that come up before the sale.
- Own the follow-up. These aren’t impulse purchases. Deals can take days or weeks, customers go quiet, plans change, and then they come back. Your job is to make sure we’re still there when they do.
- Keep HubSpot current so every conversation, quote, next step, and follow-up is where it belongs.
That last one isn’t optional. The reason this role exists is that good opportunities slip when I get busy. I need someone who sees a customer waiting on an answer or a follow-up due Friday afternoon and handles it without being reminded.
WHAT IT ISN’T
- No cold calling or pressure selling. Everyone you talk to came to us first, and if the lift won’t fit their garage, we tell them. I’d rather lose a sale than sell someone the wrong thing.
- No robotic scripts or canned rebuttals. You’ll have training, product guidance, and a process — but you’re expected to have real conversations.
- Not a call center. You’ll manage a smaller pipeline of higher-value purchases rather than racing through 50 scripted calls a day.
- No order tracking, shipping, or returns calls. Someone else owns all of that.
HOURS — HOW THIS ACTUALLY WORKS
12–15 hours a week. A real 12–15, not a full-time job in disguise.
Core desk hours: 8:00–10:00 AM Mountain, Monday–Friday. This is your guaranteed working block: returning leads, following up on quotes, answering chats, contacting installers, and moving your pipeline forward.
The remaining 2–5 hours are flexible. Schedule them around the work that needs to get done — customer calls, quotes, follow-ups, installer coordination, or anything else in your pipeline.
Our inbound sales line runs 7:00 AM–3:00 PM Mountain. During that window, calls can ring to your cell even when you’re not at your desk. This does not mean sitting by the phone or being immediately available all day. Answer if you’re reasonably able; if not, return the call the same business day. “Let me pull up your project and call you right back” is also a perfectly good answer when you’re away from your computer.
Call volume is currently light — realistically, a few conversations throughout the week — and the $150/month phone stipend is specifically for carrying that line outside your scheduled hours.
Occasional in person. I’m in the West Denver metro and I’d like to grab coffee or lunch every few weeks. Not a commute — just a real working relationship.
PAY AND BENEFITS
- Part-time W-2, non-exempt hourly
- $28–38 per hour, depending on what you bring. Someone who genuinely knows lifts and garages starts at the top of that range.
- $150/month phone stipend for carrying the inbound sales line outside your scheduled hours
- Paid sick leave accrued 1 hour per 30 worked
- Work from home. Phone system, CRM, and software provided — you supply the computer and cell phone.
- Paid time off after your first full year — 30 hours
- No commission structure today. Once we both know exactly what this role owns, I’ll build one — and I’d rather define it with you based on real deals than guess at it now and get it wrong.
Where it goes — honestly, I don’t know yet. This could stay 12–15 hours indefinitely, or the pipeline could support 25–30 within a year. I’d much rather grow the hours of someone who’s proven than hire a second person, but I won’t promise you a number I can’t guarantee.
If part-time is what you want long term, that works. If you’re hoping this becomes something bigger, it might — just don’t take it on that assumption.
WHAT I NEED FROM YOU
- Real experience selling to or advising customers on equipment, vehicles, or service
- You follow through without being reminded. Honestly the most important thing here.
- You’d rather say “let me find out” than guess. These are expensive decisions and a wrong answer costs a customer real money.
- Comfortable on a computer. This is a paperless operation — CRM, email, chat, Shopify, quoting software. If you’ve run a pipeline or work orders in software before, you’re fine. If you’d need help with the basics, this isn’t the right fit and I don’t want to waste your time.
- Your own computer and cell phone, reliable internet, and a quiet place to take calls
- Must live in the Denver metro / Colorado Front Range area. The job is remote, but this isn’t a nationwide remote position.
HOW TO APPLY
Hit apply and answer the two questions. That’s the whole process — no cover letter, no portfolio, no personality test.
I read every application that answers them. If it looks like a fit, I’ll call you and we’ll have a normal conversation about whether this makes sense for both of us.
— Andrew, Open Door Garage

- Employee discount

Application Question(s):
- Tell me about the experience you have that you think translates best to this role. What were you selling, servicing, installing, or advising customers on, and what did your role actually look like day to day?
- Think of the last deal you worked that took more than a couple of weeks to close. How did you keep track of it, and what did you actually do between conversations?
- A customer calls and says, “I want a four-post lift for my garage. What do I need to know?” How would you handle the conversation? You don’t need to know our products — I’m more interested in how you’d approach the customer and what you’d want to figure out.
