Role Description Owner Operators at Gemstone 5911 Commercials Inc. are responsible for safely operating and maintaining their own commercial vehicles while performing scheduled deliveries and pickups. In this full-time, on-site role based in the Greater Halifax Metropolitan Area, individuals plan routes, load and unload freight, verify delivery documentation, and ensure timely service to customers and warehouses. Daily activities include communicating with dispatch, following company procedures, complying with transportation regulations, and using technology tools for navigation and delivery tracking. Owner Operators also monitor vehicle performance, arrange routine maintenance, and maintain accurate records of mileage, fuel, and completed deliveries. The role requires a strong focus on safety, customer service, and reliability.
Qualifications
- Valid commercial driver’s license and clean driving record; proven experience operating commercial vehicles in regional or long-distance transport.
- Strong knowledge of local and regional routes in the Greater Halifax Metropolitan Area, including safe driving practices and compliance with transportation and safety regulations.
- Ability to manage loading and unloading tasks, handle packages with care, and maintain accurate delivery and pickup documentation.
- Comfort using route-planning, GPS, and mobile logistics applications; basic proficiency with smartphones or tablets for scheduling and communication.
- Reliable, well-maintained vehicle suitable for parcel, courier, or freight delivery; capacity to coordinate routine maintenance and inspections.
- Solid customer service skills, including clear communication, professional conduct on-site, and problem-solving when delivery issues arise.
- Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple deliveries and meet deadlines consistently.
- Physical ability to perform the demands of the role, including lifting and moving packages within safe and reasonable limits.
- Willingness to work full time with flexible schedules, including peak business hours; experience in logistics, courier, or last-mile delivery is an asset.
