Role Description The Outbound Over-The-Road Dispatcher is a full-time, on-site role based in Montebello, CA. This position manages outbound OTR loads by assigning drivers, planning routes, and coordinating pick-up and delivery schedules to ensure on-time performance and efficient utilization of equipment. The dispatcher communicates regularly with drivers to provide instructions, resolve issues on the road, and monitor load status using dispatch and tracking systems. Daily tasks include updating load information, confirming appointment times, coordinating with customers and internal teams, and responding promptly to any delays or changes. The role also involves maintaining accurate documentation, adhering to safety and regulatory requirements, and supporting continuous improvement of dispatch processes.
Qualifications
- Experience in dispatching over-the-road truckload, PTL, or LTL operations, ideally within Southern California or similar markets.
- Strong skills in route planning, load scheduling, and resource allocation using dispatch or transportation management systems.
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with drivers, customers, and internal staff in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to analyze issues on the road, make timely decisions, and problem-solve to maintain on-time service and safety.
- Knowledge of basic DOT regulations, hours-of-service rules, and general industry best practices for freight transport.
- Proficiency with standard office software (e.g., email, spreadsheets) and comfort learning new logistics platforms or tools.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to manage multiple loads, appointments, and documentation accurately.
- Prior experience in trucking, logistics, or transportation dispatch is preferred; high school diploma or equivalent required, additional education in logistics or supply chain is a plus.
- Ability to work on-site in Montebello, CA, maintain a consistent full-time schedule, and collaborate with a driver-led team.
