POSITION SUMMARY

As an Operations Manager you are essential to the daily operations of Zip Xpress. In this role you will actively manage internal personnel, manage inbound and outbound freight, establish rapport with existing and new customers, read, create, analyze inbound and outbound shipping manifests and incoming shipments, build, plan, & coordinate LTL and truckload loads, actively work to problem solve issues that arise, and work to serve as an example of Zip Xpress’ culture.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Follow instructions/guidance of Leadership

Serve as a great example of the Zip Culture by understanding, and consistently following, and maintaining the policies and procedures of Zip Xpress
Must demonstrate being discrete, prompt, and professional
Supervise key terminal staff to monitor operations at all company truck terminals, ensuring workload is completed per customer expectations: efficiently, safely and compliant with all applicable regulations
Assist sales team with marketing transportation services by providing information about available capacity
Provide back-up support to terminal supervision and administrative staff in the performance of their duties and working with existing customers in “organic” sales opportunities
Serve as a member of the organizational management team by participating in regular meetings and projects related to the operation of the company as a whole
Answering phones, responding to emails, and general customer service-oriented duties
Driving continuous improvement by engaging people in active problem solving, by analyzing trends to solve the root cause of problems
Solid understanding of fundamentals of transportation, truckload and LTL dispatch, able to understand and plan around trucking service regulations, able to communicate with a variety of stakeholders, and a thorough knowledge of less than truckload (LTL) freight and area market
Reading creating, and analyzing inbound and outbound shipping manifests
Planning, organizing, and managing staff members to ensure work is completed and consistent with the Company’s standards
Assist with selling Company services to customers, negotiating rates and contracts, and solving customer issues
Work with Leadership, corporate management, human resources department, and terminal supervision to determine staffing levels, job descriptions, and assist in the recruitment of company personnel
Assist with training, development, and discipline of employees

Any other task as requested by Leadership

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be able to support the Zip Xpress culture with a focus on teamwork and a commitment to service

Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
US Citizenship required
At least 5 years experience acting as an Operations Manager in a Transportation and Logistics role or a similar role
At least 10 years of progressive experience in a Transportation and Logistics role or a similar role
Proficiency in Microsoft office

Experience utilizing a transportation management system/software

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with less-than-truckload freight transportation

Experience with workforce planning

Experience following OSHA, DOT, FMCSA, and HR best practices

COMMUNICATION

Effectively and regularly communicate with the Zip Xpress Leadership, Office Personnel, CDL Operators, and Warehouse Staff

Support Zip Xpress’ values, principles, vision, and mission

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Lift up to 50lbs occasionally

Stand/walk/sit for up to 12 hours per day
Bend and Twist occasionally
Reach/work above shoulders occasionally
Fine manipulations frequently
Gross manipulation occasionally

Push/pull occasionally

Typical Office & Warehousing Environment

TRAVEL

This position may require occasional travel outside of the designated location when visiting customers

POSITION TYPE

This is a full-time non-exempt position

RELOCATION

Relocation expenses are not provided, and must be able to commute to our Holland, Michigan location on a regularly scheduled basis.
