At ARI Shipping, we move the world — one shipment at a time. We are an international freight forwarder, customs broker, and logistics provider handling everything from general cargo to heavy equipment, industrial machinery, and complex international shipments.
We are growing and looking for a motivated, organized, and customer-focused Ocean Import/Export Coordinator to join our team. This is a hands-on operations role for someone who understands international shipping, takes ownership of their files, communicates well with customers and vendors, solves problems, and helps keep shipments moving efficiently from start to finish.
What You’ll Do
- Coordinate and manage ocean import and export shipments from origin through final delivery.
- Handle FCL, LCL, port-to-port, door-to-door, EXW, FOB, and other international shipments.
- Make carrier bookings and coordinate with steamship lines, truckers, warehouses, terminals, overseas agents, customers, and vendors.
- Prepare, review, and process shipping documentation, including: Bills of lading, Arrival notices, Commercial invoices, Packing lists, Delivery orders, AES/EEI filings, ISF filings
- Review shipping documents for accuracy and work with customers and overseas agents to correct discrepancies before they result in delays or additional costs.
- Cooperate and communicate with customers, brokers, carriers, terminals, warehouses, overseas agents, and government agencies to help resolve shipment issues.
- Track and trace shipments and provide proactive status updates to customers throughout the shipment lifecycle.
- Monitor vessel schedules, transshipments, customs status, releases, availability, free time, demurrage, detention, terminal status, and delivery deadlines.
- Coordinate container pickup, drayage, warehouse handling, transloading, and final delivery when required.
- Work closely with customers to resolve delays, documentation discrepancies, customs holds, carrier issues, delivery problems, and other operational challenges.
- Maintain organized, accurate, and complete shipment files, including notes, documents, costs, vendor invoices, customer communications, and operational updates.
- Review vendor invoices and shipment costs to help ensure files are billed accurately and remain profitable.
- Provide a high level of customer service and maintain strong relationships with existing accounts.
- Assist with light sales and account development, including: Following up on quotes
- Identifying additional shipping opportunities with existing customers, Helping develop new business, Supporting account managers with customer needs and pricing requests, Request, compare, and negotiate rates with carriers, overseas agents, truckers, warehouses, and other vendors when needed.
- Support management and account executives with quotations, customer inquiries, operational issues, and special projects.
- Stay highly organized while managing multiple shipments, deadlines, customers, and priorities simultaneously.
- Help improve internal procedures and identify ways to make our import/export operations more efficient.
What We’re Looking For
- Prior international shipping operations experience is required. Ideally 3–5+ years of ocean import/export operations experience with a freight forwarder, NVOCC, customs broker, steamship line, or international logistics company.
- Someone who is hungry, motivated, dependable, organized, and willing to think outside the box.
- Working knowledge of ocean imports, ocean exports, carrier bookings, documentation, customs procedures, and international freight forwarding operations.
- Excellent organization and attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate professionally with customers, vendors, agents, carriers, and internal team members.
- Comfortable solving problems and taking ownership of shipments from beginning to end.
- Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced logistics environment.
- Comfortable speaking with customers and identifying opportunities to grow existing accounts.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Experience with Magaya or another freight forwarding/TMS system is a strong plus.

Pay: $60,000.00 – $75,000.00 per year
