We seek aMaterial Specialist IIto become a core member of our Facilities and Logistics Team. The Material Specialist II is responsible for the physical and administrative tasks involved in the daily shipping, receiving, and order delivery for the Allen Institute, as well asproblem solvingopen purchase orders. This role also serves as a driver for the Institute and supports the Institute by making specialized local pickups and deliveries.
The Material Specialist II will report to the Logistics Manager.
Essential Functions
Unpack and check goods received against purchase orders or invoices; work with Purchasing team to reconcile all invoice discrepancies.
Work with Finance to resolve open purchase orders.
Ensure accurate and timely delivery of supplies and equipment to labs.
Maintain accurate records of all completed deliveries.
Drive Institute owned vehicles for the purposes of transporting personnel and equipment, including working with research staff directly to ensure scheduled, specialized pick-ups with staff are supported.
Ensure the maintenance of Institute owned vehicles is performed and up to date.
Maintain shipping records and logs.
Ensure Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) are documented accurately and tasks are performed to the SOP.
Effectively cross train in all areas of the Shipping, Receiving, and Inventory department; serve as back-up to colleagues ensuring required tasks within department are covered as needed.
Ensure a clear and safe environment, free from shipping debris, removing cardboard, containers, pallets, etc. from labs after equipment and supply delivery.
Assist with direction of loading dock area and incoming/outgoing couriers, guiding multiple vendors/deliveries simultaneously.
Create, update and improve procedures for managing the above processes.
RequiredEducationand Experience
High school diploma or equivalent.
Must have a valid WA State Driver License, with driving history free from infractions.
PreferredEducationand Experience
Six months or more experience in shipping/receiving/inventory control.
Background in Bioscience industry preferred.
Working knowledge of ERP software (Oracle, SAP).
Strong customer service skills; must be able to work productively withdiversepopulations and all levels of Institute personnel.
Exceptionalattention to detailand proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously.
Proficient use of MS Office products and MS Excel.
Laboratory spaces with possible biohazards or lasers in use.
Working with dry ice.
Working in office spaces and warehouse areas.
Physical Demands
Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects weighing up to 75 lbs.
Stooping, bending, crouching.
Reaching, or climbing ladders.
