The Material Management and Storage Services Support worker plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient handling, storage, and distribution of materials within the Airforce Material Division.
Job Description:
Stock Control.
· Determine stock replenishment for items centrally controlled by monitoring and maintaining all required re-order points. Notify appropriate government personnel of any required stock replenishment items.
· Ensure supplies and monies are not wasted through excess accumulation, and that sufficient quantities are on-hand at the time required, based upon consumption rates.
· Maintain an accurate accounting and reporting system for property on-hand.
· Monitor, follow-up, and report shipment status as required, ensuring prompt shipment of assets.
· Generate, run, and maintain all required reports and property documentation databases.
· Perform required document control operations, to include any reverse post actions, trend date updates, manual or automatic transaction history inquiries and asset inquiries.
· Maintain and coordinate all due-in and due-out validations.
Mission Capable Asset Management (MICAP)
· Process MICAP requisitions into appropriate computer systems.
· Determine MICAP status of assets and generate follow-up reports on an as needed basis.
· Ensure all mission support requirements are completed to include MICAPS by verifying, researching, and updating of supply computer systems.
Material Handling
· Ensure delivery vehicles are off-loaded in a timely manner, and all items on the bill of lading are verified.
· Monitor the delivery of serviceable and unserviceable assets.
· The employee will have ability to drive AF and GSA Vehicles.
Deliver received assets to base facilities daily and in ILS-S each day.
Packing & Crating
· Perform a wide variety of standard and specialized preservations and /or packing and repacking work utilizing various protective cushioning techniques for custom packing of a variety of items including hazardous materials to ensure safe and damage free movement.
· Prepares, processes, and verifies all required documentation, special handling labels, shipping codes, and required safety data.
· Preservation work may involve application of oils, powders, desiccants, etc., which may require disassembly and reassembly of the item to be shipped.
· Operates manual and automated packaging equipment as required.
· Computes size, weight, and determines types of containers, packing methods, and materials to be used in packing according to destination, shape, mounting provisions, mode of transportation and resistance to shock.
· Pack and certify all types of hazardous cargo in accordance with federal regulations.
· Assesses overall warehouse procedures, space utilization techniques, as well as specialized procedures to safely handle, pack, store, label, and ship hazardous materials.
· Prepares and verifies shipping documents for correct safety and destination coding, hazardous material classification and special handling instructions using manual and automated processing procedures.
· Uses and maintains various types of equipment, such as packaging and preservations equipment, heat sealers, shrink wrapper and stapling machine.
· Performs duties and operates equipment in a safe manner, utilizing safety practices and procedures and comply with established safety rules and regulations.
Shipping
· Plans and carries out shipping arrangements.
· Consolidates shipments to obtain advantages and arranges stop-offs for partial loading/off-loading as required and/or determined beneficial to the government.
· Selects and notifies carrier to procure transportation services needed and arranges for pickup and delivery, ensuring the lowest cost approved carriers are used, and selects from competing carriers within various modes of transportation based on service, cost, and equitable distribution.
· Determine freight classifications for a variety of unusual and standard items, some of which have no record of published classification.
· Complies with official rulings in moving hazardous cargo and controlled material.
· In applying tariffs, tariff rates, packing and crating rates and directives, consider factors such as weight, distance, date of packing, pickup, required date at destination, remoteness or inaccessibility or origin address or final destination, types of items to be shipped, etc.
· Operate forklifts, powered, and manually operated pallet jacks and other hand operated material handling equipment.
· Validates, inspects, and certifies the shipment of arms, ammunition, explosives (AA&E) and Electrostatic Sensitive Discharge (ESD) items.
Receiving
· Responsible for the receipt and distribution off all supplies and cargo from incoming shipments and in-checks all arriving cargo at the installation into appropriate transportation systems for record.
· Notes and researches any exceptions such as shortages or overages, damages, and incorrect material received.
· Obtain appropriate receipt signatures and process all support documents of cargo/supplies delivered.
· Ensures all documentation for incoming freight is received, checked, inspected, and completed in accordance with governing directives.
· Ensure delivery vehicles are off-loaded in a timely manner, and all items on the bill of lading are verified.
· Pickup and Delivery.
· Responsible for the delivery of inbound cargo/property to on-base customers.
· Support on-base customers with the pickup of assets being shipped out.
· Obtain appropriate receipt signatures and process all support documents of cargo/supplies delivered.
· Additional Requirements and Notes
· Demonstrate practical experience in the area of expertise required by the contract.
· Provide technical support to supporting and deploying units.
· Supplies purchase request status.
· Maintain accountable balances.
· Determine excess and processes request, turn-ins, and receipts.
· Prior experience utilizing Army/ Air Force systems is highly valued but not required.
The employee should possess the following knowledge/skills:
· Strong organizational skills
· Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
· Basic knowledge of standard office procedures and the ability to interpret general direction
· The ability to use Power Point, Excel, Word, Access
· Basic knowledge of supply computer tracking systems (preferably Integrated Logistics Supply System (ILS-S))
· Basic knowledge of traffic management systems. CMOS, GATES, ESS, etc.
· Basic knowledge of warehouse layouts and plans
· Basic knowledge of supply processes and procedures
· Basic knowledge of stock level maintenance and inventory control
· Basic knowledge of traffic management and distribution processes and procedures

Duties
Develop and implement procurement strategies to buy materials efficiently and cost-effectively.
Manage supplier relationships, ensuring timely delivery of quality materials.
Utilize systems such as SAP or Oracle EBS for tracking inventory levels, orders, and supplier performance.
Oversee logistics operations to ensure smooth transportation and storage of materials.
Collaborate with production teams to forecast demand and plan material requirements using MRP (Material Requirements Planning) techniques.
Implement Lean manufacturing principles to streamline processes and reduce waste in material handling.
Analyze inventory data to identify trends, optimize stock levels, and minimize excess inventory.
Coordinate with fabrication teams to ensure that all necessary materials are available for production schedules.
Conduct regular audits of inventory and supplier performance, making adjustments as necessary to improve efficiency.
