Summary:
The Logistics Sourcing Manager role is responsible for optimizing how work is distributed across suppliers, strengthening vendor performance, and reducing cost volatility related to equipment availability, transportation, and project timing. The position will play a key role in improving operational consistency while helping build a more data-driven, technically enabled mobilization function.
Job Responsibilities:
Logistics Optimization & Supplier Management
- Proficiency in route optimization and multi-modal transport
- Understand how to minimize "deadhead" miles and maximize fleet utilization
- Manage and evaluate performance across heavy haul and logistics suppliers
- Apply structured performance pressure to improve cost, reliability, and responsiveness
- Identify opportunities to better distribute work across vendors to improve efficiency and reduce risk
- Develop and maintain strong long-term supplier relationships while ensuring accountability
Mobilization Planning & Execution
- Coordinate crane mobilization planning – including breakdown, transportation and assembly of crawler cranes – in alignment with project schedules and operational needs
- Support efficient allocation and repositioning of equipment across job sites
- Anticipate equipment availability challenges and proactively identify alternatives
- Have full understanding of state-by-state permitting for oversized loads, escort requirements, and bridge law restrictions
- Support logistics team in securing permits for oversize / overweight loads and route planning
- Ensure all movements comply with FMCSA and DOT regulations, especially regarding specialized heavy-lift equipment
- Communicate with crane operators / managers, rigging crews, trucking partners, and site supervisors to align on schedules
- Manage ocean freight logistics for cranes/ components required via ocean going vessels
- Ensure safety and compliance procedures are followed during loading, unloading, and transport
Cost Control & Data Analytics
- Analyze freight spend to identify trends and implement cost-saving initiatives without sacrificing lead times
- Identify cost-saving opportunities across transportation, fuel, and equipment sourcing
- Support RFP processes and supplier negotiations to stabilize pricing and improve availability
- Help mitigate cost increases due to market fluctuations, equipment shortages, or project delays
- Ability to build and maintain spreadsheets (or use specialized TMS software) to track Cost Per Mile (CPM), fuel surcharges, and carrier performance.
- Track supplier performance metrics including cost, reliability, and delivery performance
- Build and maintain reporting tools to support decision-making and forecasting
- Use data insights to improve allocation strategies and supplier utilization
Process Improvement & Future Enablement
- Support development of more structured, data-driven mobilization processes
- Contribute to improving systems and tools used for logistics and supplier coordination
- Help lay groundwork for a more scalable and efficient mobilization function
Standard Operating Procedures & General Functions
- Maintain accurate documentation for shipments, including packing lists, permits, delivery logs, and crane component tracking
- Manage inventory of crawler crane components such as booms, jibs, counterweights, and undercarriages
- Track equipment location, availability, and readiness using internal systems or fleet software
- Provide administrative support to the logistics and operations teams as needed
- Work closely with the operations and sales teams to ensure equipment arrives on job sites exactly when needed to maintain rental revenue.
- Understand and comply with all Buckner Safety Policies as well as OSHA regulations. Safety is a shared responsibility, and we actively support employees who identify risks, propose solutions, and champion safer ways of working
- Comply and complete all company-required trainings
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director, Logistics and/or Senior Leadership

Work Location:

Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, or Industrial Engineering (preferred)
- 7–10 years in logistics supply chain, procurement, or industrial operations
- Industry experience in construction, oil & gas, or renewable energy/wind sectors are ideal)
- Direct experience managing a diverse vendor base of 3PLs and independent heavy-haulers
- CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional) or CLTD (Certified in Logistics, Transportation and Distribution) preferred
- Experience in construction, heavy equipment, oil & gas, or related industries (preferred)
- Strong background in vendor management and operational coordination
