OBJECTIVE
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Logistics Manager oversees the Logistics Department and is responsible for the daily oversight of the employees and high-level logistics functions. The incumbent is responsible for preparing and maintaining accurate customs documentation for global exports and resolving import issues to ensure compliance with government regulations. Responsibilities include arranging transport by appropriate means to ensure the best value. Coordinating with government agricultural departments to guarantee all requirements are fulfilled is a key function of this role.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in logistics management / relevant field of study
Experience & Skills:
3-5 years of experience in Logistics Management within the food industry
2 years of leadership or supervisory experience
Strong computer skills and above-average knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products including Excel and Outlook
Knowledge of customs compliance procedures; NAFTA, United States, and Canadian customs regulations
Understanding of purchasing and receiving processes is considered an asset
Excellent communication skills with a high degree of tact when dealing with and responding to shipping issues, supplier requests, and customer complaints
Positive attitude and calm demeanor when dealing with adversity
Strong teamwork skills and the ability to work as a cohesive group with co-workers within both Logistics and Purchasing & Sales departments, Shipping & Receiving and Production Staff
Leadership experience obtained from previous roles in a professional or academic environment is highly desirable and considered an asset
Ability to present, resolve, and address delicate situations with external contacts when required
Previous experience using Enterprise Resource Systems (Famous) is a strong asset, as is knowledge of Smart Border and Adobe
Organizational skills
Openness to change, and a sense of urgency in a transaction-based business
High degree of problem-solving skills and the ability to address a broad variety of issues, complex and abstract. Must be able to develop solutions using creativity, resourcefulness, innovation, negotiation, and diplomacy
Time management skills are a requirement of this role to effectively manage priorities in a busy work environment
Knowledge of North American geography is required
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Negotiate rates with carriers by observing market trends to obtain competitive rates.
Source new carriers as required.
Add charges to purchase and sale orders using EarthFresh/Mountain King 2.0’s internal ERP.
Manage bookings for trucks and freight domestically and inbound/outbound to and from Canada and the United States.
Actively brainstorm new ways to move freight while maintaining excellent service and fair rates. Research freight rates for shipments to obtain competitive pricing and arrange shipments by ocean, air, and ground (boxcar rail, intermodal rail, and high-way transport).
Stay abreast of and in compliance with U.S. and International export/import regulations and company procedures.
Respond to environmental and seasonal changes promptly.
Prepare documentation in accordance with US Customs procedures under the harmonized system, including accurate filing of documentation for imports, exports, and refunds.
Prepare shipping documents and coordinate with freight carriers for inbound and outbound shipments.
Communicate with carriers regarding disputes while working to come up with a mutually beneficial resolution to issues.
Expedite purchase and sales orders and identify import/export delivery issues to ensure on-time delivery and to meet production schedules and customer needs.
Provide relief for co-workers when on leave.
Conduct annual performance evaluations for staff and closely monitor the performance of all members of the Logistics team.
Track the flow of CHEP pallets, ensuring the balance and invoicing is accurate.
Resurrect losses when freight claims occur due to damage in transit.
Assist accounts payable with freight invoice disputes and rectify short shipments.
Assisting accounts payable with customs broker invoice disputes.
Uphold EarthFresh/Mountain King 2.0’s values with a positive attitude and high degree of tactfulness when dealing with external parties as a representative of EarthFresh and its affiliates.
The position will require travel as needed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The employee regularly needs to talk and hear, frequently uses hands and fingers to handle objects, and may occasionally stand, walk, sit, or reach. They should be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and must meet specific vision requirements, including close and distance vision. The typical noise level in the work environment is low to moderate.
