Duties
- Safely operate flatbed trucks on local delivery routes, ensuring compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards
- Load and unload freight using manual handling techniques, ensuring proper securing of cargo such as steel beams.
- Use GPS navigation systems to plan efficient routes and adapt to real-time traffic conditions for timely deliveries
- Transport automobile parts or other specialized cargo with precision and care, maintaining vehicle safety and cargo integrity throughout the journey
- Conduct pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of trucks, trailers, and cargo to ensure vehicle safety and compliance with hazardous materials regulations if applicable
- Document delivery details accurately, including load & unload records, delivery receipts, and incident reports
- Follow all safety protocols related to hazardous materials handling when transporting dangerous goods or hazardous substances
Experience
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, specifically with flatbed or tractor-trailer configurations with both legal and OD loads is preferred
- Prior delivery driving experience within local or regional routes preferred; familiarity with route driving is essential
- Knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT regulations, hazardous materials regulations, and safe manual handling practices
- Experience operating refrigerated trailers or tanker trailers is a plus but not required
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with endorsements relevant to flatbed trucking; Hazmat certification is advantageous
- Skilled in truck loading & unloading procedures, logistics cargo handling, and managing freight securely on flatbeds or tanker trailers
- Ability to operate manual transmission vehicles confidently and safely
