Backhaul Direct is hiring an Import Specialist for our International logistics department. We are looking for a motivated person with a self-starter mentality to actively manage our customers’ international freight. The Import Specialist is primarily responsible for managing import and drayage shipments and ensuring proper processes are followed including problem resolution. The Import Specialist will join our International logistics team (licensed NVOCC) and thrive in our fast-paced environment utilizing customer service skills to further advance our company goals and initiatives. What will you do as the Import Specialist (not limited to)?
Process and manage import and/or export shipments, including air shipments when needed
Prepare price quotes on international freight
Prepare necessary documents for shipments
Develop and maintain relationships with customers as well as vendors specifically steamship lines and customs
Research and resolve operational problems
Ensure customer needs are consistently met and assist to resolve inquiries
Expedite clearance and delivery to exceed customer requirements
Perform load audits and ensure all information is accurate
Work well in a team environment and assist other peers when needed
What are the qualifications for the Import Specialist?
Bachelor’s degree in business, logistics or related area preferred
Minimum 2-3 years of experience specifically in the freight forwarding industry, ocean import or export operations needed
Experience with CargoWise needed
Bilingual a plus
Maintains an eye for detail and accuracy
Strong organizational skills to coordinate multiple tasks and projects
Ability to adapt quickly, be flexible, and manage change effectively
Technologically savvy and able to learn new software programs quickly
Knowledge of principle and methods for moving goods by air, sea, or road, including the relative costs and benefits
Knowledge of state, federal, and international applicable laws and regulations i.e. customs, TSA, security, and all other import and export government agencies that regulate international trade desired
Proven ability to contribute to a dynamic, high-energy team with varying levels of experience
Ability to work independently and remain on-task with minimal supervision
