Job Description
Every container tells a story. You're the one who makes sure it has a happy ending.
Somewhere on the water right now, a vessel is carrying cargo that someone, somewhere, is waiting on. Getting it from origin to their door — cleanly, compliantly, on time — is where you come in.
We're looking for an Import Sea Operator to join our OneTrack team in Auckland. You'll be the person who keeps sea freight moving: tracking shipments, wrangling documentation, and being the calm, capable voice between shipping lines, customs brokers, and clients who just want to know "where's my cargo?"
What You'll Actually Be Doing
- Tracking incoming sea shipments from origin to final delivery — nothing slips through the cracks on your watch
- Processing the paperwork that keeps cargo legal and moving: bills of lading, customs declarations, commercial invoices
- Working with customs brokers and regulators to keep every shipment compliant, every time
- Keeping your systems and records sharp, accurate, and up to date
- Being upfront with clients — status updates, delays, delivery windows, no surprises
- Spotting problems before they become problems, and sorting them out fast
- Confirming vessel schedules and cargo availability with shipping lines and forwarders
- Pulling together reports and metrics that actually tell management something useful
- Looking for smarter, leaner ways to run the import process — because "that's how we've always done it" isn't a strategy
Qualifications
- 2+ years of professional experience in sea freight import operations or logistics coordination
- Proficiency with logistics management systems and software
- Strong knowledge of import procedures, customs regulations, and documentation requirements
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record-keeping
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for client and stakeholder interactions
- Analytical mindset with the ability to identify and resolve operational issues
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Preferred experience with CargoWise or similar specialized logistics platforms
- Preferred knowledge of New Zealand customs procedures and import regulations
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team environment
