As an Import / Export Operator, you will be responsible for managing end-to-end international shipments across sea and air freight. You will work closely with overseas agents, shipping lines, airlines, customs brokers, transport providers, and clients to ensure cargo moves efficiently, compliantly, and on schedule.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, values accuracy and communication, and enjoys taking ownership of shipments from booking through to final delivery.
- Key ResponsibilitiesManage end-to-end import and export shipments (FCL, LCL, and air freight)
- Coordinate bookings with shipping lines, airlines, and overseas agents
- Prepare and check shipping documentation including:
- Bills of Lading / Air Waybills
- Commercial invoices & packing lists
- ISF / AMS / customs-related documentation (where applicable)
- Liaise with customs brokers to ensure timely clearance
- Track shipments and proactively communicate updates to clients
- Arrange cartage, unpacking, and final delivery
- Handle rate requests, costing, and job profitability
- Resolve delays, rollovers, and exceptions efficiently
- Ensure compliance with international trade regulations and company SOPs
- Maintain accurate records in the freight management system
- Skills & ExperiencePrevious experience in freight forwarding, import/export operations, or logistics
- Strong understanding of international shipping processes (sea & air)
- Knowledge of Incoterms, shipping documentation, and trade compliance
- Excellent communication skills with clients and global partners
- Strong attention to detail and time management
- Ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously
- Confident problem-solver with a proactive mindset
Systems experience (desirable but not essential):
- CargoWise or similar freight management systems
