As a Heavy Haul Driver, you will operate tractor-trailers equipped for heavy and specialized cargo, ensuring timely and secure deliveries while adhering to all safety and regulatory standards. Responsibilities
- Safely operate tractor-trailers with heavy or oversized loads, including flatbed, tanker, or specialized equipment like refrigerated trailers or roll-off trucks.
- Plan and execute over-the-road (OTR) driving routes using GPS navigation systems to ensure timely deliveries across multiple states or regions.
- Load and unload freight manually or with equipment such as forklifts, ensuring proper securing of hazardous materials and dangerous goods in compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections to verify vehicle safety, including checking load stability, tire condition, brakes, lights, and safety equipment.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, cargo documentation, and delivery records in accordance with DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers regarding route adjustments, delivery schedules, or safety concerns.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols related to hazardous materials regulations and truck loading/unloading procedures.
Qualifications
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with endorsements suitable for heavy haul operations, Hazmat certification preferred.
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, especially with tractor-trailers used for automobile transportation or freight delivery.
- Familiarity with logistics cargo handling including load & unload procedures for flatbed, tanker, or roll-off trucks.
- Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT (Department of Transportation) rules, and hazardous materials regulations governing dangerous goods transportation.
- Experience operating refrigerated trailers and utilizing GPS navigation systems for route planning.
- Ability to handle manual transmission trucks safely and efficiently during long-distance routes.
- Skilled in manual handling techniques necessary for loading/unloading freight safely and effectively.
- Prior experience with delivery driving on OTR routes or local route driving preferred.
