Duties
- Safely operate tractor-trailers equipped with tankers carrying hazardous materials, ensuring compliance with all FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
- Navigate complex routes using GPS navigation systems, planning efficient over-the-road (OTR) routes that optimize delivery times while prioritizing safety.
- Load and unload freight with precision, handling logistics cargo with care to prevent spills or damage during transit.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of trucks and tankers, including checking for leaks, proper labeling, and compliance with hazardous materials regulations.
- Maintain accurate documentation for all shipments, including delivery logs, incident reports, and safety records related to dangerous goods transportation.
- Ensure proper manual handling techniques when securing loads or performing routine maintenance on equipment.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch teams and clients to confirm delivery schedules and address any route or safety concerns promptly.
Skills
- Proven experience driving commercial trucks, especially tractor-trailers with refrigerated trailers or flatbeds that may be used for specialized cargo.
- Knowledge of hazardous materials regulations and proper procedures for transporting dangerous goods safely.
- Skilled in using GPS navigation tools for route planning and real-time navigation adjustments during trips.
- Familiarity with manual transmission trucks and truck loading/unloading processes to ensure safe cargo handling.
- Ability to comply strictly with FMCSA, DOT, hazardous materials regulations, and safety protocols at all times.
- Strong driving skills with a focus on route driving, freight delivery accuracy, and manual handling techniques.
- Experience in automobile transportation or freight logistics involving hazardous or sensitive cargo is a plus.
