Job Title: Hazmat International Air Shipping Specialist
Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Hazmat International Air Shipping Specialist to oversee the safe and compliant transportation of hazardous materials via air freight. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of international shipping regulations, including IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR), and ensure full compliance with all applicable laws and safety standards. This role requires strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and coordination with various stakeholders to facilitate efficient and secure shipments.
Key Responsibilities:
Ensure compliance with IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR), ICAO, DOT, and other relevant international air transport regulations.
Classify, package, label, and document hazardous materials for international air shipments.
Prepare and review shipping documentation, including Dangerous Goods Declarations (DGD) and airway bills.
Coordinate with airlines, freight forwarders, and regulatory agencies to ensure timely and compliant shipments.
Conduct risk assessments and safety checks on hazardous materials prior to shipping.
Train and provide guidance to team members on hazmat shipping regulations and best practices.
Maintain accurate records of all hazardous shipments and ensure proper documentation is retained per regulatory requirements.
Stay up to date on changes in hazardous material regulations and implement necessary updates to shipping procedures.
Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to resolve any issues related to hazmat shipments.
Assist in audits, investigations, and incident reporting related to hazardous material transportation.
Qualifications & Skills:
Minimum of 3-5 years experience in international air shipping, specifically handling hazardous materials.
Certification in IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) required.
Strong understanding of ICAO, DOT, and other international hazmat shipping regulations.
Experience in freight forwarding, logistics, or supply chain management is preferred.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make critical decisions under pressure.
Effective communication and coordination skills with internal teams, airlines, and regulatory agencies.
Proficiency in shipping software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field preferred.
Relevant certifications in hazardous materials handling and transportation.
Work Environment:
Must be able to lift packages and handle materials as needed.
Some travel may be required for training or compliance purposes.
