About the Opportunity
Join the Thermo Fisher Scientific Global Trade Compliance team as a Global Trade Compliance & FTZ Specialist. This role combines strategic compliance oversight with hands-on responsibility for Foreign Trade Zone operations, inventory controls, customs filings, audits, and regulatory reporting.
You will serve as a subject matter expert in global trade compliance and FTZ administration. Working across Compliance, Corporate, Global Trade Compliance, warehouse, logistics, customs broker, and freight forwarder stakeholders, you will help ensure that international trade operations comply with U.S. Customs and Border Protection regulations, global trade laws, and applicable local requirements.
Direct experience managing FTZ operations is required. This position is based at an FTZ site and is fully onsite five days per week.

You will have direct responsibility for FTZ administration, CBP interactions, inventory reconciliation, customs documentation, audits, reporting, and corrective actions.
What You’ll Do
- Ensure compliance with global trade regulations, including U.S., EU, and applicable local-country requirements.
- Interpret and apply import and export controls, trade agreements, customs regulations, and other global trade requirements.
- Conduct risk assessments and compliance audits, identify findings, and implement corrective actions.
- Support denied party screening, licensing activities, and trade documentation processes.
- Collaborate with government agencies and maintain relationships with customs authorities.
- Oversee Foreign Trade Zone operations in accordance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection regulations, including 19 CFR Part 146, and FTZ Board requirements.
- Prepare and submit customs documentation, including CF214, CF3461, CF7501, and CF7512, using customs software systems.
- Manage bonded and in-bond transactions and ensure the timely closure of bonds.
- Serve as the primary liaison with CBP for audits, reviews, inquiries, and other FTZ-related matters.
- Monitor and reconcile FTZ inventory using ERP systems, such as SAP, and FTZ software.
- Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies and file required reports with CBP.
- Coordinate with warehouse and logistics teams to support accurate, compliant inventory movements.
- Maintain compliant electronic records and supporting documentation.
- Prepare and submit required FTZ and compliance reports to CBP and the FTZ Board.
- Generate internal reports that support audits and business decision-making.
- Take ownership of inventory-control, audit, and reporting activities associated with the FTZ.
- Identify process-improvement opportunities and support continuous-improvement initiatives, including PPI and Kaizen.
- Partner with cross-functional teams, customs brokers, and freight forwarders.
- Provide training and guidance on trade compliance and FTZ processes.
- Serve as a key point of contact and subject matter expert for trade compliance and FTZ-related matters.
- Work independently while collaborating effectively in a matrixed, cross-functional environment.
Required Qualifications
- Advanced degree with 3+ years of experience, or Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of experience in global trade compliance, FTZ operations, or related roles
- Strong knowledge of international trade regulations, customs compliance, and FTZ operations
- Experience with CBP regulations, ACE system, and customs documentation processes
- Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP) and global trade management software
- Experience with inventory control and reconciliation in an FTZ environment
- Familiarity with HTS classification, denied party screening, and licensing requirements
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills
- Experience conducting audits and implementing corrective actions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and in a matrixed, cross-functional environment
- Willingness to travel up to 20%
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in International Trade, Business, Logistics, Law, or a related field.
- Professional certification such as CCS, CZS, CTCS, or LCB.
- Experience with continuous-improvement methodologies, including PPI or Kaizen.
- Proven ability to build relationships with regulatory authorities.
