PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Freight Operations Senior Manager leads and optimizes daily Ocean & Air Freight forwarding operations in Korea. This role oversees end-to-end import/export processes, local procurement, operational cost management, and regulatory compliance while supporting commercial growth. Key priorities include driving process efficiency, strengthening carrier/co-loader partnerships, collaborating with Global Business Services (GBS) hubs, and reporting to regional leadership to deliver high-quality logistics solutions.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES  

Operational Leadership & Service Delivery

  • Lead and manage a local operations team of approx. 10 members, optimizing workload distribution and productivity.
  • Oversee end-to-end handling of diverse cargo types, including Project Cargo, Network/Agent shipments, Nominated accounts, and Local business.
  • Partner with the Regional GBS team to standardize workflows, optimize off-shored tasks (e.g., documentation, billing entry), and enforce Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Enforce adherence to global/regional Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and drive key operational KPIs (On-Time Delivery, Documentation Accuracy, Billing Speed).
  • Serve as the final escalation point for complex operational bottlenecks, project logistics challenges, and customer claims.

Carrier, Co-loader & Vendor Management

  • Maintain strong relationships with ocean carriers, airlines, and core co-loaders to secure competitive rates and space allocations.
  • Negotiate with and manage local service providers (customs brokers, heavy-lift transporters, trucking companies, warehouse operators).
  • Streamline network/agent communication workflows for seamless coordination on nominated and overseas agent cargo.

Cost Control & Operational Finance

  • Analyze operational cost structures, eliminate cost leakages, and drive savings to protect margin profitability.
  • Ensure accurate, timely billing, validate vendor/co-loader invoices, and prevent revenue leakage or settlement delays.
  • Participate in operational budgeting and provide volume and cost forecasts based on market dynamics.

Commercial Support & Regional Reporting

  • Manage matrix reporting to Regional Operations Leadership, participating in regional alignment meetings and performance reviews.
  • Partner with Sales and Regional Commercial teams to provide rate guidance and operational feasibility inputs for RFQs and Project Tenders.
  • Support client onboarding and participate in Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) to drive customer retention.

Compliance & Process Improvement

  • Ensure full compliance with Korean customs regulations, international trade sanctions, and local maritime/aviation laws.
  • Drive process optimization and adoption of digital workflows across operations.

Previous Work Experience & Qualifications

  • 10–15+ years in international freight forwarding within MNC/Global environments.
  • Proven people management experience leading an operational team.
  • Hands-on experience across diverse cargo streams in both Ocean and Air Freight.
  • Experience working in matrix organizations, collaborating with offshore GBS teams, and reporting to regional leadership.
  • Fluent English communication skills (verbal/written) for regional reporting and global stakeholder management.
