Estimator/Quoter Jobs in San Jose, CA at MountIQ Technologies

Job Summary

MountIQ Technologies is seeking an experienced Quoter/Estimator for our electronics contract-manufacturing operations. This position prepares accurate and competitive quotations for printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), cable assemblies, and wire harnesses.

The Quoter/Estimator will review customer BOMs, drawings, Gerber files, specifications, and manufacturing requirements to determine material costs, labor content, tooling, NRE, outside services, lead times, and production risks. This role works closely with customers, suppliers, purchasing, engineering, production, and sales.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review RFQ packages, BOMs, drawings, Gerber files, assembly instructions, specifications, and quality requirements.
  • Prepare quotations for PCBA, box-build, cable-assembly, and wire-harness opportunities.
  • Analyze BOMs for manufacturer part numbers, approved alternates, quantities, availability, lifecycle status, and lead times.
  • Obtain pricing for electronic components, bare PCBs, connectors, terminals, wire, cable, sleeving, labels, hardware, and other materials.
  • Calculate SMT, through-hole, hand-soldering, inspection, testing, programming, coating, potting, and final-assembly labor.
  • Estimate wire cutting, stripping, crimping, soldering, terminating, labeling, braiding, sleeving, testing, and harness-assembly labor.
  • Identify tooling, fixtures, stencils, programming, test development, engineering, and other NRE requirements.
  • Include outside-processing costs such as PCB fabrication, conformal coating, cable processing, testing, and specialized inspection.
  • Evaluate minimum order quantities, material attrition, packaging requirements, freight, tariffs, and supplier price breaks.
  • Identify obsolete, long-lead, sole-source, allocation-controlled, or high-risk components.
  • Document quote assumptions, exclusions, lead times, minimum order requirements, and customer-supplied material.
  • Work with engineering and production to confirm manufacturability and realistic labor standards.
  • Maintain current supplier pricing, labor rates, overhead assumptions, and quote records.
  • Support quote revisions, costed BOM updates, and customer-requested pricing scenarios.
  • Compare quoted costs with actual production results to improve estimating accuracy.
  • Follow up on open quotations and assist sales with customer questions.

Required Qualifications

  • Two or more years of quoting, estimating, purchasing, manufacturing engineering, or related experience in electronics manufacturing.
  • Experience with PCBA, cable-assembly, or wire-harness manufacturing.
  • Ability to read and interpret BOMs, assembly drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and customer specifications.
  • Understanding of electronic components and manufacturer part-number structures.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, sorting, filtering, and cost analysis.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple RFQs and meet customer deadlines.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate across departments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience quoting both PCBA and wire-harness assemblies.
  • Familiarity with SMT, through-hole, selective soldering, hand soldering, box build, and testing processes.
  • Knowledge of wire gauges, connectors, terminals, contacts, crimp tooling, and harness assembly methods.
  • Experience using ERP, MRP, BOM-management, quoting, or component-pricing software.
  • Familiarity with IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, IPC/WHMA-A-620, and applicable workmanship requirements.
  • Experience with component distributors and electronic-parts sourcing.
  • Familiarity with PCB fabrication requirements and Gerber packages.
  • Understanding of RoHS, REACH, ITAR, AS9100, ISO 9001, or other customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with low-volume/high-mix contract manufacturing.

Success in This Position

The successful candidate will:

  • Produce complete and accurate quotations on time.
  • Clearly identify assumptions, risks, exclusions, and missing RFQ information.
  • Balance competitive pricing with required margins and realistic manufacturing costs.
  • Maintain organized quote documentation and supplier support.
  • Help improve estimating accuracy using actual production results.
