Job Description
A career as a flight dispatcher is both complex and demanding but also exciting. There is no shortage of challenges and the feeling of making a difference is felt every day. If you like managing and resolving problem situations and if you like organizing and structuring your time in order to accomplish the work required, this position is for you. The flight dispatcher plays an essential role in the flight operations department.
He shares responsibilities with the pilot in command over the safety and operational control of flights in a type A environment. He authorizes flights by formulating and approving the operational flight plans and assures flight watch jointly with the pilot in command until engines shut-down.
Responsibilities
Planning of assigned flights safely and economically
Flight watching of flights under his responsibilities
Analyzing and monitoring of weather conditions and Notams as well as their impacts on flights
Amending flight plans as required
Maintaining direct communications at all times with the flights under his responsibilities
Execution of emergency procedures when required
Qualifications
College diploma or equivalent
Successful completion of FD-OPS and FD-MET exams
Holding a restricted radio operator certificate
Holding a valid passport up to 6 months after the predicted date of hiring
Obtention of a restricted area identification card within three months following the date of hire
Successful completion of a flight dispatch course is an asset
Experience as a flight dispatcher is an asset
Knowledge of CAR’s, MNPS, RVSM and ETOPS is an asset
Bilingualism (French and English) is essential *
Excellent communication skills
Working shift works including evenings, nights and weekends
* A good knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec. The incumbent will be required to communicate and collaborate frequently in English, both orally and in writing, with colleagues, customers, and other stakeholders in Quebec, the rest of Canada, and internationally.
