Role Description The Dispatcher role is a full-time, on-site position located in Durham, NC. The Dispatcher coordinates daily freight and air-cargo operations by assigning drivers, planning routes, and monitoring schedules to ensure timely pickups, deliveries, and line hauls. This role communicates continuously with drivers, warehouse teams, and customers to provide status updates, resolve issues, and adjust plans based on traffic, weather, and operational changes. The Dispatcher uses dispatch and fleet management systems to track shipments, maintain accurate records, and ensure compliance with company policies, TSA requirements, and relevant transportation regulations. Day-to-day responsibilities also include managing documentation, prioritizing time-critical shipments, supporting communication with partner facilities, and collaborating with supervisors to optimize resource utilization and service quality.

Qualifications

  • Operational coordination and logistics planning skills, including route planning, load scheduling, and real-time problem solving.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills for interacting with drivers, warehouse staff, partners, and customers in a clear and professional manner.
  • Proficiency with dispatch, transportation, or fleet management software, as well as basic computer skills (email, spreadsheets, and data entry).
  • Knowledge of freight, air-cargo, or trucking operations, including basic DOT, TSA, and safety regulations relevant to dispatch activities.
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills for maintaining accurate records, documentation, and shipment tracking information.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize multiple tasks, and make sound decisions under time pressure.
  • Prior experience in dispatch, transportation, or logistics operations is preferred; experience in the Southeastern U.S. market is a plus.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or training in logistics, supply chain, or transportation management is beneficial.
  • Willingness to work assigned shifts, which are primarily early afternoon evenings. With potential of weekends depending on operational needs.
