Duties
Delivery Operations
- Ride with company delivery drivers on scheduled two-person deliveries.
- Assist the driver in loading, unloading, moving, carrying, and positioning large or heavy freight.
- Safely maneuver freight through doorways, hallways, stairways, elevators, garages, yards, and other areas as necessary.
- Assist with delivery of freight into residences, businesses, construction sites, and other customer locations.
- Work with the driver to determine the safest method for moving and positioning freight before beginning a delivery.
- Use appropriate moving equipment, carts, dollies, straps, ramps, blankets, and other material-handling equipment when provided.
- Assist with securing freight during transportation.
- Help protect customer floors, walls, doors, landscaping, and other property during deliveries.
- Follow driver instructions and communicate clearly with the driver throughout the delivery process.
- Stop work and notify the driver or supervisor when a delivery presents an unsafe condition or cannot be safely completed.
- Assist with verifying freight and delivery quantities against shipping or delivery documentation.
- Report visible freight damage, shortages, or other delivery discrepancies to the driver or supervisor.
- Assist with obtaining customer signatures and documenting delivery completion when required.
- Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor when interacting with customers.
Safety
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
- Use proper lifting and material-handling techniques at all times.
- Work as a coordinated team with the driver when lifting and moving heavy or oversized freight.
- Never attempt to move freight that exceeds safe handling capabilities.
- Use mechanical assistance or additional personnel when appropriate.
- Maintain awareness of surroundings, including stairs, uneven surfaces, overhead obstructions, wet or slippery surfaces, and other potential hazards.
- Immediately report injuries, accidents, property damage, unsafe conditions, or damaged freight to the driver and/or supervisor.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety footwear, gloves, or other equipment as required.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area in and around delivery vehicles.
Vehicle and Equipment Support
- Assist the driver with loading and unloading the delivery vehicle.
- Help inspect moving equipment and delivery-related equipment before use.
- Notify the driver or supervisor of damaged or unsafe equipment.
- Assist with keeping the truck, loading area, and delivery equipment clean and organized.
- May assist with basic warehouse activities between deliveries as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The successful candidate must be capable of performing the physical requirements associated with large-item delivery work, including:
- Frequently lifting and carrying heavy objects weighing up to 300 lbs.
- Working with a second person to move oversized or awkward freight.
- Repeated bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Walking over uneven surfaces and navigating stairs.
- Working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Entering and exiting delivery vehicles repeatedly throughout the workday.
- Maintaining balance and body control while maneuvering large or awkward loads.
- Performing physically demanding work safely and continuously throughout the workday.
The ability to safely lift and maneuver heavy and oversized freight with assistance from another team member is an essential function of this position.
Pay: $19.00 – $22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 per week
