Export Control & Customs Specialist

An established energy-sector organization is seeking an experienced Trade Compliance Specialist with deep expertise in Export Control and solid knowledge of Customs Compliance. The role combines operational execution (first line of defence) with governance and oversight activities (second line of defence) to ensure full compliance with EU, UK, US, and international trade regulations.

Approximately 70% of the role is focused on Export Control, with the remaining scope dedicated to customs-related activities.

Key Responsibilities

Export Control

  • Perform daily Export Control screenings and assessments, including Dual-Use classification, ECCN determination, and US re-export analysis
  • Ensure compliance with EU, UK, and US export control regulations
  • Support export license applications and regulatory filings
  • Maintain and manage Export Control master data (ECCN, re-export status, end-use/end-user data)
  • Develop, update, and maintain internal Export Control procedures and guidelines
  • Monitor regulatory changes and implement compliance updates
  • Conduct internal controls, audits, and compliance reviews
  • Support investigations, voluntary disclosures, and remediation activities
  • Act as subject matter expert for internal stakeholders

Customs Compliance

  • Ensure accurate and compliant customs declarations
  • Classify goods using correct HS codes and maintain customs master data in SAP
  • Monitor import/export flows and ensure adherence to EU and national customs legislation
  • Coordinate with warehouse and logistics teams on customs-related processes
  • Manage customs brokers, powers of attorney, and service agreements
  • Support customs authorization applications
  • Assist with customs audits, inspections, and inquiries
  • Draft and maintain customs SOPs and documentation

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • University degree in Foreign Trade, Customs, Export Control, International Trade Law, or similar
  • 7+ years of experience working with Export Control and Customs Compliance
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of EU, UK, and US export control regulations
  • Practical experience with ECCN classification, Dual-Use regulations, and US re-export rules
  • Experience with EU customs regulations, HS classification, Free Trade Agreements, and Union Customs Code
  • Working experience with SAP S/4HANA (trade or customs-related modules)
  • Experience working with customs systems and brokers
  • Strong MS Office skills
  • Professional proficiency in English and Danish (German or Dutch is an advantage)
  • Ability to work onsite in Kolding at least 2–3 days per week (mandatory)
