Porter Trustin Carlson Company is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Construction Estimator / Bid Coordinator to join our team. This position will be responsible for managing incoming bid opportunities and estimating a variety of commercial construction specialty products.
We are open to either a full-time or part-time candidate, depending on experience and availability.
This is a great position for someone who enjoys working with construction plans and specifications, managing multiple deadlines, putting together detailed estimates, and taking ownership of their work.
PTC has been serving the commercial construction industry since 1918. We specialize in a wide variety of specialty building products, giving this position exposure to many different types of construction projects and products.
Responsibilities
Bid Coordination
- Receive and review Invitations to Bid from general contractors, construction managers, architects, and bidding services.
- Download project plans, specifications, addenda, bid forms, and other applicable bidding documents.
- Review projects to determine which PTC product lines are applicable.
- Set up new bidding opportunities and projects in Monday.com.
- Maintain accurate project information, bid dates, contractor information, and estimating assignments.
- Monitor bid deadlines, addenda, revisions, and other project updates.
- Keep bidding documents organized and ensure estimators are working from current information.
Estimating
- Review architectural plans, specifications, schedules, elevations, and details.
- Identify products within PTC’s scope of work.
- Perform accurate quantity takeoffs using Bluebeam and other estimating tools.
- Review plans and specifications to determine required products, quantities, sizes, finishes, accessories, and special requirements.
- Use manufacturer estimating and quotation programs to develop project-specific pricing.
- Request and review manufacturer quotations when necessary.
- Determine material, freight, delivery, and other applicable project costs.
- Prepare internal bid sheets and apply company-established markups.
- Review manufacturer quotations and estimates for accuracy and completeness.
- Identify alternates, substitutions, allowances, and potential changes in scope.
Proposal Preparation
- Prepare professional proposals clearly describing the products and services PTC is providing.
- Include appropriate quantities, product descriptions, finishes, options, and accessories.
- Clearly identify exclusions and responsibilities that are not included in PTC’s scope.
- Include appropriate clarifications regarding freight, delivery, field measurements, installation, lead times, taxes, and other project-specific conditions.
- Review proposals for completeness and accuracy before submission.
- Revise pricing and proposals based on addenda, contractor requests, or project changes.
- Communicate with general contractors and manufacturers to clarify bidding requirements when necessary.
Product Lines
This position will estimate a mix of specialty construction products, including:
- Toilet partitions and toilet accessories
- Lockers
- Fire extinguishers and cabinets
- Access doors
- Roof hatches
- Wall and corner protection
- Tackboards, markerboards, chalkboards, and bulletin boards
- Cubicle curtains and curtain track
- Mailboxes
- Flagpoles
- Trash and linen chutes
- Other Division 10 and specialty construction products
Most Division 10 products handled by this position are furnish-only, while some product lines, including trash and linen chutes and certain locker projects, may include installation.
For installed products, the Estimator will also determine applicable installation costs, including:
- Estimated installer labor hours
- Travel and drive time
- Mileage
- Per diem and lodging when applicable
- Forklift, scissor lift, or other equipment rentals
- Freight and material-handling costs
- Field-verification or site-visit costs
- Other project-specific installation expenses
Qualifications
- Commercial construction estimating, project coordination, construction management, or related experience is preferred.
- Ability to read and understand architectural plans and specifications.
- Construction Management, Business Management, or related education is preferred but not required. Relevant construction or estimating experience may substitute for formal education.
- Strong computer skills and ability to learn manufacturer-specific estimating and quotation programs.
- Experience with Bluebeam is strongly preferred.
- Experience with Monday.com, Procore, BuildingConnected, ConstructConnect, Dodge, or similar construction software is helpful.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage numerous projects and bid deadlines at the same time.
- Strong written communication skills.
- Comfortable communicating with general contractors, manufacturers, architects, and coworkers.
- Able to work independently while knowing when to ask questions or seek assistance.
- Dependable, energetic, organized, and willing to learn.
Experience with our specific specialty products is not required. These are specialized construction products, and we expect to provide product-specific training. We are looking for someone with the ability to learn, understand construction documents, stay organized, and develop into the position.

Pay: $50,000.00 – $60,000.00 per year
