Duties
- Safely operate tractor-trailers and other commercial vehicles across over-the-road (OTR) routes, ensuring compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
- Transport freight including hazardous materials (hazmat), dangerous goods, refrigerated cargo, flatbed loads, and tanker shipments with precision and care.
- Load and unload cargo using manual handling techniques or truck loading equipment while ensuring proper securing of freight to prevent damage during transit.
- Utilize GPS navigation systems to follow optimal routes, monitor traffic conditions, and ensure timely deliveries.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections on trucks and trailers to identify maintenance needs or safety issues before driving.
- Maintain detailed logs of driving hours, delivery records, and inspection reports in compliance with legal requirements.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch teams regarding route updates, delivery schedules, or any issues encountered on the road.
Skills
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving with a focus on route driving and delivery driving.
- Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT rules, hazardous materials regulations, and safety protocols for transporting dangerous goods.
- Skilled in operating various types of trucks including tractor-trailers with manual transmissions, refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, and tankers.
- Excellent driving skills with a clean record; ability to handle manual handling tasks safely during load & unload processes.
- Familiarity with GPS navigation tools for efficient route planning and real-time traffic updates.
- Ability to manage logistics cargo handling accurately while adhering to safety standards for truck loading/unloading.
- Good communication skills for coordinating with dispatchers, customers, and safety personnel; proactive problem-solving abilities are a plus.
