As a LTL/FTL Class A Driver for UNIS Transportation you will transport Non- Hazardous freight with consistent volumes picking up and delivering to our rapidly expanding nationwide network of terminals. Valid Class A CDL and acceptable DOT/Safety driving record. Meet or exceed the medical standards of the US Department of Transportation and possess a valid DOT Medical card. No DUI’s or major driving violations. Satisfactorily pass a drug and alcohol test. Willing to submit a background check and provide employment recommendations. Must have knowledge of DOT regulations governing safe driving, hours of service, vehicle inspection and maintenance

Responsibilities

  • 1. Safely operate Class A commercial vehicles (including tractor-trailers and/or other heavy equipment as assigned) to transport goods to and from customer locations, terminals, or company facilities in accordance with DOT and company safety standards.
  • 2. Follow assigned routes, schedules, and dispatch instructions, proactively communicating delays, route issues, or safety concerns to dispatch and operations to maintain delivery reliability and customer commitments.
  • 3. Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment, accurately document defects, and coordinate with maintenance teams to address safety or mechanical issues before operating.
  • 4. Ensure accurate loading, securing, and unloading of freight, verifying documentation such as bills of lading, delivery receipts, and manifests, and maintaining clear records to support inventory control and compliance.
  • 5. Represent the company professionally at all times by maintaining strong customer-facing behavior on-site, adhering to site-specific rules, and practicing defensive driving and incident prevention in diverse traffic and environmental conditions.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 1. Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) issued in the state of California, with an acceptable and current motor vehicle record (MVR) that meets company and insurance requirements.
  • 2. 2 years of verifiable experience operating Class A commercial vehicles (e.g., tractor-trailer) in regional or local delivery, preferably in similar traffic and urban conditions as the Bay Area.
  • 3. Strong knowledge of and adherence to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR), DOT hours-of-service rules, and California state transportation regulations.
  • 4. Ability to perform vehicle inspections, handle basic troubleshooting (e.g., identifying mechanical issues, tire or brake concerns), and report in a timely and accurate manner.
  • 5. Physically able to meet the demands of the role, including climbing in and out of cabs, securing loads, handling freight as required (within legal and company limits), and working in varying weather and traffic conditions.
  • 6. Eligibility to work in the United States and ability to pass required background checks, drug/alcohol screening, and any company-specific safety certifications.

Preferred Requirements:

  • 2. Experience in customer-facing delivery operations such as LTL, final-mile, food & beverage, building materials, or industrial supplies, with demonstrated ability to interact professionally at customer sites.
  • 3. Prior work experience with route planning tools, electronic logging devices (ELDs), and basic transportation management systems (TMS).
  • 4. Clean safety record with no major preventable accidents or serious violations in the last 3 years, and a history of compliance with company safety programs.
  • 5. Familiarity with major freight corridors, local regulations, and typical delivery environments in and around Hayward, Oakland, San Jose, and broader Bay Area.
  • 6. Ability to support flexible scheduling including early mornings, late evenings, or occasional weekend work to align with peak operational and customer requirements.
