Tasks
Command and operate ships or vessels to transport passengers and cargo
Supervise and co-ordinate activities of deck crews
Determine geographical position using navigational instruments, maps and charts
Direct and oversee the loading and unloading of cargo
Maintain vessel’s navigational instruments and equipment
Control, steer and navigate a vessel in various waterways
Enforce regulations in Canadian waters
Record vessel’s progress, weather and sea conditions in ship’s log
