Role Description The Business Development Manager is a full-time, hybrid role based in Durban, with the flexibility for some work-from-home arrangements. This role is responsible for identifying and developing new business opportunities in freight forwarding and customs brokerage, including air, sea, rail, and road logistics solutions. Day-to-day tasks include prospecting and engaging potential clients, nurturing existing customer relationships, preparing and presenting service proposals, and negotiating commercial terms within company guidelines. The Business Development Manager collaborates closely with operations, finance, and global partners to design competitive, tailored logistics solutions and ensure seamless implementation. The role also involves market research, tracking sales performance, maintaining accurate CRM records, and contributing to strategic planning to support long-term growth and client retention.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate Degree in related field.
  • Strong business development, sales, and account management skills, with a track record of generating and growing revenue in B2B environments.
  • Clearing and Forwarding Sales experince is a minimum requirement.
  • Knowledge of freight forwarding, logistics, and customs brokerage processes, ideally including airfreight, seafreight, road, and rail operations.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation abilities, with strong relationship-building and customer service skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills for assessing client needs, developing tailored solutions, and interpreting market trends.
  • Organizational and time-management skills, including accurate pipeline management, CRM usage, and follow-through on opportunities.
  • Comfort working in a hybrid environment, with the ability to collaborate on-site in Durban and work independently from home.
  • Relevant experience in logistics, supply chain, shipping, or related fields; experience with international trade or customs regulations is an advantage.
  • Post-school qualification in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related discipline preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
