Responsibilities
- Safely operate box trucks and tractor-trailers across various over-the-road (OTR) routes, adhering strictly to FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
- Load and unload freight with manual handling techniques, ensuring cargo is secured properly for transit.
- Navigate efficiently using GPS systems to optimize delivery routes and meet scheduled deadlines.
- Transport refrigerated trailers, hazardous materials (Hazmat), or dangerous goods as required, following all hazardous materials regulations.
- Manage the transportation of freight including automobile transportation, flatbed loads, tankers, and other specialized cargo types.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and compliance with DOT standards.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and clients to coordinate delivery schedules and resolve any logistical issues promptly.
Skills
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, delivery driving, or freight transport with a focus on route driving.
- Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations, hazardous materials regulations, and DOT compliance standards.
- Skilled in truck loading and unloading, including manual handling of logistics cargo handling.
- Familiarity with refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, and tractor-trailer operations.
- Ability to operate manual transmission vehicles confidently and safely.
- Proficient in using GPS navigation systems for route planning and real-time adjustments.
- Excellent driving record with experience in over-the-road (OTR) routes involving long-distance travel.
