JOB SUMMARY
As a Boat Tour Operator, you are responsible for ensuring a safe, enjoyable experience for guests while providing exceptional customer service during various tours, including the Undersea Sub Expedition, Glass Bottom Boat, Discover Two Harbors, and the seasonal Flying Fish Voyage.
U.S. Coast Guard (U.S.C.G) Licensed Personnel exclusively handle vessel transportation, emphasizing safety and enjoyment. Your role focuses on delivering memorable maritime experiences through excellent customer service and proficiency in multiple tours.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
Safely operate and navigate the vessel, considering weather conditions and passenger safety.
Perform efficient mooring and unmooring procedures.
Ensure compliance with maritime regulations and navigate according to established routes.
Oversee vessel maintenance and cleanliness, conducting regular safety checks.
Coordinate with crew and guests for smooth boarding and disembarking.
Monitor fuel consumption, engine performance, and operational aspects.
Communicate safety instructions effectively and answer passenger questions.
Act appropriately in emergency situations to ensure safety.
Maintain documentation such as logs, incident reports, and certifications.
Stay updated on maritime industry trends, regulations, and safety standards.
Deliver informative narratives about the island’s marine life, history, and ecology as per approved tour scripts.
Perform other duties as assigned.
PAY TRANSPARENCY
The pay rate for this position is $34.00 per hour. Total compensation varies based on work location, skills, experience, and education.
QUALIFICATIONS
– 50 Ton USCG Master Near Coastal Captain’s License
– USCG merchant mariner credential endorsed as OUPV
– Knowledge of USCG navigation rules
– Boat handling experience
– Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
– Ability to walk, climb, and descend pier ramps frequently
– Adherence to DOT drug testing policies
Licenses and Certifications
– FCC Marine Radio Operator Permit
– USCG Merchant Mariner Credential endorsed as follows:
– Master Near Coastal: capable of operating commercial vessels up to 100 tons, carrying more than six paying passengers, on inland waters and up to 200 miles offshore.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Our workplace is clean, well-lit, ventilated, and compliant with safety standards. Noise levels are medium; physical activities are moderate. Employees must have the stamina for long hours, with tasks performed indoors and outdoors in controlled temperatures. Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, stretch, lift up to 50 lbs, and walk on various surfaces for extended periods. Manual dexterity, grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, and climbing are required.
