Role Description The Boarding Officer / Waterklerk is responsible for supporting vessel calls and cargo operations in the port, ensuring smooth coordination between ships, terminals, authorities, and clients. This full-time, on-site role is based in Vlissingen-Oost and involves attending vessels, checking documentation, and relaying operational information. Daily tasks include liaising with captains and crew, arranging pilots, tugs, and other services, handling customs and port formalities, and monitoring cargo operations and berthing plans. The role also includes preparing and updating port call reports, managing administrative records, communicating status updates to clients and stakeholders, and responding promptly to operational changes or issues. The Boarding Officer / Waterklerk contributes to FSA’s full-service concept by maintaining strong relationships, ensuring accurate information flow, and representing client interests in the port.

Qualifications

  • Experience or strong interest in port agency, shipping, or maritime logistics, with an understanding of vessel operations and cargo handling procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with captains, crew, port authorities, terminals, and clients in a clear and professional manner.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities, including the capacity to handle multiple vessel calls, changing schedules, and administrative tasks accurately.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to respond quickly to operational changes and maintain a calm, service-oriented attitude.
  • Proficiency in English and Dutch (spoken and written), and comfortable working with email, office software, and basic digital tools.
  • Willingness to work variable hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays when required by vessel schedules.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between port locations and the office as needed.
  • Relevant vocational or higher education in maritime studies, logistics, business, or a related field is preferred; prior experience in a similar role is an advantage.
