Description:
The Assistant Manager will be responsible for overseeing all transportation-related concerns within a designated geographic market and will have the flexibility to cover additional markets as needed. This role includes managing dispatchers, CDL drivers, and other personnel within Gavel Transport. The Assistant Manager will ensure that operations run smoothly, efficiently, and in compliance with all safety regulations.

Dispatching & Shift Coverage: Perform all dispatching duties and cover shifts as needed to ensure continuous and effective operations.
Staff Management: Oversee all aspects of personnel management, including hiring, training, disciplining, conducting performance reviews, and managing terminations when necessary to ensure high-performing teams.
Coordination with Operations: Collaborate with operational management at Nellis Auction to ensure timely product delivery and meet Nellis Auction’s vendor Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
Fleet Utilization: Maximize fleet utilization to ensure profitable operations.
Freight Broker Coordination: Work with freight brokers to secure trailer backloads on out-of-state lanes.
Customer SLA Management: Ensure that for-hire freight customer SLAs are met or exceeded.
Vendor Coordination: Secure multiple quotes for third-party loads to ensure the best service and lowest price.
Fleet Management: Oversee fleet maintenance, ensure DOT inspections are completed on time, and manage other fleet-related operations.
ELD & GPS Management: Monitor and manage the Electronic Logging Device (ELD) and GPS systems to ensure compliance and efficiency.
Scheduling: Manage and schedule Dispatchers and Drivers to ensure proper staffing and operational efficiency.
Safety & Compliance: Supervise Dispatchers and Drivers, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, training, and DOT regulations.
Vendor Liaison: Act as the liaison between vendors, Nellis Auction management, and staff to ensure smooth operations.
Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with OSHA and DOT health and safety regulations in all operations.
This position may require travel to additional markets as necessary to support operations.
Requirements:
Education:
High School Diploma or GED required
Experience:
Previous management experience required
Driver management experience preferred
Prior experience with truck/trailer dispatching required
Yard jockey experience preferred
Skills:
Excellent computer and technical skills
Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment
Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively in English
High attention to detail
